Casey Affleck and Jason Seagle are what's best about this. I love watching Casey play his miserable, depressed looking self. If you liked Manchester by the Sea you will like this too just for Casey :P because he was what was best about that too :P |
:warn POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT :warn @ Guest 2861 You are getting your Dakota Blues mixed up :D You are thinking of Dakota Blue Richards who played Lyra in 'The Golden Compass'. This Dakota Blue in this movie is Dakota Mayi Blue :D But yeah, this is definitely an overwrought experience, depends if that is your thing :-) or not :) Definitely not dissimilar to Manchester by the Sea, it even looks like it, but Manchester by the Sea had a lot more cinematography, but think this has been edited down though to only 2 hours, 6 minutes and 3 seconds :) Dying is ever portrayed realistically in these kinds of movies; the easy acceptance, the resignation the just slipping peacefully away... no one ever goes out fighting :) A lot of the scenes in this seemed kind of cliched, like you know you have already seen it some-place before, even the hospice nurse character looked familiar :) , just the whole scene looked familiar :) I can imagine Casey Afleck losing his temper and smashing wine bottles in real life. |
Sorry @Cyberian Most of us come to TGx to find real comments which most of the time we can find from Users here [but not lately and we know if we don't see the regular commenters here [which we are grateful for] we can pretty much guarantee nothing is worth considering] not planted Rotten Tomatoes comments |
As I scanned torrent galaxy on my phone I have accidentally rated this movie 5 stars, I apologise for misleading anyone but you never know it could well be a masterpiece after all. TB. |
Good wine-bottle smashing scene in this. No prizes for guessing who is smashing the wine bottles :P |
this movie was so depressing i wanted to sit in a hot bath and open a vein 10 minutes in, I like Casey Affleck and Jason Seagle but Dakota Johnson was just a sickly sweet and too good to be true overly emotional mother who often to seem more smothering than loving. They always seem to portray the dying in these stories as if they were heroic or nothing short of saintly and the long suffering, patient and devoted husband is all at once cliched especially after being cheated on and betrayed - made me want to vomit! Dont be sucked in by the over the top emotionalism this is more than 2 long painful hours, you can waste your time in a more meaningful way |
Holy hell, Batman you are going to need a bumper size pack of tissues :-( to get through this emotional roller-coaster of a tear-jerking :-( ride. Superb performances all around. The fact that this is based on a true story makes it especially poignant. Nicole Teague played brilliantly of Dakota Johnson died of cancer at the devastatingly young age of 36 :(:-( I often lie awake at night wondering why Dakota Blue Johnson dropped the 'Blue'. Casey Afleck is reminiscent of his role in 'Manchester by the Sea', he seems to be drawn to these kinds of parts, and something else that causes me sleepless nights is wondering, given Casey's 'bad boy' image if he is really acting when he 'loses it'. Jason Segel (Dan) puts in a spotless performance as well as making Casey look really small :D The kids are superb and can't be faulted. The bit part players, as they often do, don't let the side down as they did in Manchester by the Sea, one of Afleck's other outings.. This also has Ridley Scott on board as an executive producer. Some nice aerial shots thrown in. Recommended for fans of well-made quality entertainment and especially so if you like a good cry :-@ |
This 'steals' a scene from Ice Cream in the cupboard where the character suffering from pre-Alzheimers put ice cream... in the cupboard :facepalm In this it is milk that she puts in the cupboard :facepalm and Casey has to fetch it out and put it in it's proper place in the refrigerator. |
This is not a linear movie. It jumps back in forward in time. e.g. One year after diagnosis, One year before diagnosis. But is it not like Tenet. You can follow it and it still makes sense. |
Tomatometer score of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 51 critics reviews. Critics Consensus: Our Friend's occasionally frustrating approach to dramatizing its fact-based story is often offset by a trio of starring performances led by a never-better Jason Siegel. |
