Summary from IMDB:
"Part fact and part fiction, Zoot Suit is the film version of Luis
Valdez's critically acclaimed play, based on the actual Sleepy Lagoon
murder case and the zoot suit riots of 1940s Los Angeles. Henry Reyna is
the leader of a group of Mexican-Americans being sent to San Quentin
without substantial evidence for the death of a man at Sleepy Lagoon. As
part of the defense committee, Alice Bloomfield and George Shearer fight
the blatant miscarriage of justice for the freedom of Henry and his
friends." Written by Fiona Kelleghan
My notes:
Zoot Suit was originally a play performed by Teatro Campesino and written by Luis Valdez.
The notes on the play script available as a book of the collected plays of Luis Valdez give many
more details than I can provide here.
There's costume, music, and dance as you can see in the opening shots of
"Zoot Suit." You'll hear the music (a bit of it done by Shorty Rogers and
his Giants) called "The Zoot Suit Boogie." But the dance routine in Zoot
Suit at the beginning is for atmosphere.
Like other torrents, versions of "Zoot Suit" have come and gone. I
present it here in a reasonable size for easy download. This new torrent
has the audio adjusted from the original DVD which was used for the rip.
This recode is from a new source with more language and subtitle options
It was in a 3Gb file.
And, yes, as some of my notes show, my original Zoot Suit had been
running for seven years. With the lapse of the original index I have made
use of this multi language, multi subtitle recode for a new audience.
It's possible that the picture quality is no more nor less than the
original which came out on VHS when movie rentals were new. Zoot Suit was
one of the first VHS video rentals I had seen.
All the languages and subtitles work from your VLC or Daum Player. The
usual Russian overdub (common practice in Russian language versions of
recodes) is in that selectable language group and does not interfere with playback.
A note on the audio. The audio will sound thinner and a bit pinched. The original VHS and DVD both had wide fluctuations in volume-- so bad that I had to learn the techniques for adequate sound normalization on my original recode those years ago.
Consider maintaining Zoot Suit with me in your permanent file shares.
Any problems with the recode, write a note below.
