Knights of the Occasional Table ‘John Barleycorn 2000’Includes covers of Fairport Convention,Ewan McColl and old traditionals!Features Zion Train’s Molara with guest lead vocals. These ambient dubsters have looked to their roots for their latest project, their fourth album. And the roots they found were: traditional English folk music! With hurdy gurdys and violins married to their usual melodic techno tunes, they have created a unique, haunting and timeless album- from a version of ‘John Barleycorn’,the oldest known English song,to their own brand of third millennium dance music. Regulars at the Big Chill and Megatripolis clubs & numerous festivals, the Knights have been steadily building a reputation for funky vibes and quality chill-out music. Now these cyberfolk have sailed into previously uncharted waters, guided only by their many influences from the past and a quest for experimenting with modern music and melody. The album features original songs alongside techno-folk covers of Fairport Convention,Ewan McColl and old traditional songs. Zion Train’s Molara takes lead vocals on one of the highlight tracks,‘We’,and other guests include Peter Riley of The Winchesters. The Knights, familiar to many through compilations from Planet Dog,Big Chill,Megatripolis,Dubnology 1 & 2,etc,are now using their digital logic to give a new twist to contemporary folk and contribute to the hybrid that is today’s roots music
South-east London multiracial dance band, comprising Steve, Nygell, Moose, Andrew and vocalist Aquamanda. Their debut album was initially released on their own label before being picked up by Club Dog. Its title - Knees Up Mother Earth - offered a big clue to their sound, wherein modern technological means (programmes, drum machines, samplers) were employed to deliver a primal beat with varied ethnic stylings. The Knights have not been as immediately successful as stylistic counterparts Fun-Da-Mental or Transglobal Underground, ensuring Steve and Andy continue their day-time jobs as psychiatric nurse and journalist for Stage And Television Today respectively.
