DragonForce are a British power metal band from London, England. The band was formed in 1999 by guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman, and are known for their long and fast guitar solos, fantasy-themed lyrics and retro video game-influenced sound. DragonForce's current lineup comprises Li, Totman, vocalist Marc Hudson and drummer Gee Anzalone. The band have been through a number of lineup changes throughout their career; longtime members in vocalist ZP Theart, keyboardist Vadim Pruzhanov, drummer Dave Mackintosh and bassist Frédéric Leclercq are among the former members of the band.
Reaching into Infinity is their seventh studio album. It is drastically different from their previous albums, featuring more of a traditional heavy metal and thrash metal sound, while still retaining power metal elements. This is mostly seen in the eight track, War!, which features a thrash/death metal feel, and the tenth track, The Edge of the World, which brings an Iron Maiden kind of sound. There is also a cover of Evil Dead by Death.
According to an interview in Metal Hammer, band frontman Sam Totman revealed that the sixth track, Silence, is talking about bassist Frédéric Leclercq’s friend who committed suicide. The song references the final note by the friend, which was addressed to their mother. The lines “We’ll meet again” refers to meeting after death, and “I won’t be again” refers to the passing.
