Horror is my preferred genre. That having been said, GIRL ON THE THIRD FLOOR did absolutely nothing for me. An ex-con by the name of Don Koch, the main character, with a very pregnant wife (who's off somewhere working to support her ex-con husband) is single-handedly renovating a very old house which, as we come to learn, used to be a whorehouse. The catch, of course, is that the house is haunted. These story foundations aren't bad. One might imagine an especially tough and resourceful main character fighting the good fight against some difficult and recalcitrant ghosts. Might be pretty good.
