I had a lot of problems with these. I DON'T think there is any problem with Maurice's files. But I think my torrent app, Bit Torrent, was having issues, for some reason. Was it because the files were so large? I have no idea. In case some of you had similar issues, here's what happened to me, and here's how I solved it. The files wouldn't play back properly. Whether I used VLC or Media Player Classic or Gom or whatever, the files simply wouldn't play straight through. Every twenty to thirty seconds, the playback would come to a complete halt, the picture would pixelate, and I'd sit there, cooling my heels, usually for five to ten second, before the playback would resume. I tried all sorts of things to fix the problem. I tried making copies of the files and playing back the copies. I would experience about a 10% to 20% improvement, but that didn't fix the problem. Then I tried using an excellent free app, XMedia Recode, to recontain them as Matroska MKV files. That fixed the freezing problem but then the quality of the video sharply deteriorated. Instead of getting 25 frames a second, I would get jerky playback, like a silent movie, with something like 12 or 13 frames a second. Then I tried putting them into VideoReDo. First I simply resaved them, and I got about a 50% improvement, but the freezing problem still hadn't gone away completely. Then I tried putting them through the VideoReDo StreamFix tool. That actually made a somewhat more dramatic improvement, about an 80% improvement, but I was still having the problem about once every two minutes. Finally I used a procedure that seemed to cure it completely. In XMedia Recode, I created two files, a video only re-contained ts copy and and audio only recontained ts copy. Those played back fine, so then, in XMedia Recode, I used those two files to recontain a brand new Matroska MKV file (into which I also pulled the subtitle file for my language, which is English). That completed audio/video/subtitled Matroska MKV file played back fine. So that's what I did for all six files, and that solved the problem. So, if any of you experienced, or are experiencing, problems like these, perhaps you will find these instructions helpful. As always, Maurice, thank you, thank you, thank you! These videos are so very special to so many thousands of us around this planet, and you are such an important part of our quality of life. Diecimila anni al nostro Imperatore, Maurice! |
