*Trivia*
This movie's most famous line is often misquoted. A lot of people mistakenly quote the line as "Do you feel lucky, punk?", while the actual line is "You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?"
The Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum used in this movie is now owned by prop master and weapons specialist Bill Davis, who bought it off of the production company several years before this movie became popular. The revolver is still in use as part of his catalogue.
A Police Department in the Philippines ordered a print of this movie for use as a training film.

1935

Image error

*Trivia*
Colin Clive's alcoholism had worsened since the first film, but James Whale did not recast the role because his "hysterical quality" was necessary for the film.  Not long before filming began, Colin Clive broke a leg in a horse riding accident. Consequently, most of Henry Frankenstein's scenes were shot with him sitting.
Boris Karloff sweated off 20 pounds laboring in the hot costume and makeup.
Boris Karloff protested against the decision to make The Monster speak, but was overruled. Since he was required to speak in this film, Karloff was not able to remove his partial bridgework as he had done to help give the Monster his sunken cheek appearance in the first Frankenstein (1931). That's why The Monster appears fuller of face in the sequel.
Boris Karloff was paid $2,500 per week, for a total of $12,500, a large sum in the mid-30s but perhaps not enough to compensate the 48-year-old for playing the role in the elaborate make-up and heavy costume, exacerbating his already severe arthritis.

1997

Image error

*Trivia*
The year in the movie is 2197, 200 after the movie was made.
Body Count: 256
To avoid an NC-17 rating, 4 seconds had to be trimmed from a decapitation during the last battle at the Whiskey Outpost base. However the four seconds can be seen in the version on the FX network.
More ammunition was used in this film than in any previous movie. According to veteran weapons coordinator Robert 'Rock' Galotti, the crew expended over 300,000 blank rounds during the course of filming - a personal record at the time.
The battle gear was later reused in Power Rangers Lost Galaxy (1999) and the show Firefly (2002) in the episode "The Train Job".
Although they play high school graduates, Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer, and Patrick Muldoon were all 29 when they made the film.
Lieutenant Willy is played by Steven Ford, the son of former U.S. President Gerald Ford.

1958

*Trivia*
The film takes place in the future, in 1985.
The basic plot element of this film, a planet inhabited solely by females, was used five years earlier in Abbott and Costello Go to Mars (1953).
Gabor first appears about 32 minutes into the film.
It is somewhat of a coincidence that the colors of the uniforms of the armed women on Venus (red, blue, gold) match the basic colors of the uniforms of the original Star Trek (1966) series. The "Star Trek" uniforms in the pilot were different--blue, gold, beige.

1978

Image error

*Trivia*
Halloween was shot in 20 days in the spring of 1978.
John Carpenter considered the hiring of Jamie Lee Curtis as the ultimate tribute to Sir Alfred Hitchcock who had given her mother, Janet Leigh, legendary status in Psycho (1960) (for the same reason, Dr. Sam Loomis was named after Sam Loomis from Psycho). During the same period, Universal studio producers and director Richard Franklin were trying to enroll Jamie Lee in the new production of Psycho II (1983).
The stabbing sound effect is a knife stabbing a watermelon.
The dark lighting comes from necessity: the crew didn't have enough money for more lights.
Of the female leads (all the girls are supposed to be in high school), only Jamie Lee Curtis was a teenager (being 19) at the time of shooting.

1954

Image error

*Trivia*
Originally produced in 3-D.
Two different stuntmen were used to portray the creature, and therefore, two different suits were used in the movie. Ricou Browning played the creature when it was in the water and wore a lighter suit, Ben Chapman played the creature when it was out of the water with a darker suit.
Ricou Browning, a professional diver and swimmer, was required to hold his breath for up to 4 minutes at a time for his underwater role as the "Gill-man". The director's logic was that the air would have to travel through the monster's gills and, thus, air bubbles from his mouth or nose must not be seen. Thus, the costume was designed without an air tank. In the subsequent films, this detail was ignored and air can be seen emanating from the top of the creature's head.
According the the Universal press department, the Creature suit was valued at $18,000.

1944

Image error

*Trivia*
Paramount added special effects to the film, having decided at the last moment to emphasize its supernatural premise. The effects were removed by censors when the film was distributed in England.
Setting this 1944 film in 1937 relieved the filmmakers of having to show anything concerning World War II, which didn't begin in Europe until 1939.
Despite the filmmakers' attempts to avoid mention of elements of WW II, it appears that the little Ford Model C, driven by Ray Milland, has air raid caution, partially blacked-out headlights. They are visible in the scenes of Roderick driving Stella to church.
Moyna MacGill (the mother of Angela Lansbury) has an uncredited role as the customer who enters the cigar shop while Roderick is speaking with the proprietor.
Set in England, The Uninvited was filmed at Paramount's Hollywood studios as well as locations in San Francisco and Phoenix, Arizona in 1943.

*Trivia*
Breakthrough movie role for Bob Hoskins (Harold).
Bob Hoskins' voice was dubbed over by a Wolverhampton actor, for fear Americans wouldn't understand his London accent. After Hoskins threatened to sue Jack Gill and British Lion (the original producers before HandMade bought the rights), the dubbing was removed. He was supported by Richard Burton, Sir Alec Guinness, and Warren Beatty.
For his performance, Bob Hoskins received a fan letter from notorious London gangster Ronald Kray.
This film is Pierce Brosnan's (James Bond) feature film debut, his part was supposed to be completely silent, but he improvised one word of dialogue, "Hi".

1961

*Trivia*
Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) was shot only three months after the birth of Audrey Hepburn's first son, Sean Hepburn Ferrer. Hepburn moved to New York from Switzerland for the location shoot with husband Mel Ferrer and new baby in tow.
Audrey Hepburn's salary for the film was $750,000 (roughly equivalent to $7.3 million as of 2022), making her the highest paid actress per film at the time.
Henry Mancini wrote "Moon River" specifically for Audrey Hepburn. He later said that while many version of the song have been done, he feels that Audrey's was the best.
The famous black dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in the opening scenes of this movie was sold for $807,000 on December 4, 2006 at Christie's Auction House in London, making it the second most expensive piece of movie memorabilia ever sold. The first is the Best Picture Oscar for Gone with the Wind (1939).

1948

Image error

*Trivia*
This was MGM's highest grossing film of 1948.
Gene Kelly was originally scheduled to play Don, but he broke his ankle playing volleyball in his backyard. It was his suggestion that he be replaced by Fred Astaire. Cyd Charisse was up for the role of Nadine, but a torn ligament in either one or both of her knees forced her to drop out. She was replaced by Ann Miller.
Judy Garland's husband, Vincente Minnelli, was originally slated to direct, but her psychiatrist advised them not to work together.
Fred Astaire was 49 years old in real life at the time of the film release. Judy Garland was 26 years old.
The story is set between the Easter Sundays of 1911-1912, which was just prior to the beginning of World War I (1914). The film was produced in 1948, just three years after the end of World War II (1945).

*Trivia*
Partly filmed on location in the UK's Newcastle-upon-Tyne, birthplace of co-star Sting.
Tommy Lee Jones plays a character in this film, named Cosmo. Joe Pantoliano would later play a character named Cosmo in The Fugitive (1993), and its sequel U.S. Marshals (1998). Jones portrayed Cosmo's superior officer, Deputy U.S. Marshal Samuel Gerard, in both of those films. Keeping up with the "Cosmo" theme, James Cosmo appeared in the film, but he did not play Cosmo.
Christopher Walken turned down the role of Cosmo.

1952

Image error

*Trivia*
Despite the title, the characters don't reach France until 1 hour and 15 minutes into the film, and only the last 25 minutes are spent in Paris.
Apart from the stock establishment shots, all of Paris was created on the Warner Brothers Studio back lot.
Doris Day wrote in her autobiography that she only encountered trouble or tension on two of her Warner Bros. movies: 'April in Paris' and Young at Heart (1954). Regarding this film, she claimed that leading man Ray Bolger and director David Butler clashed early on, with Butler accusing Bolger of trying to steal scenes away from Day. She also mentioned that being a relative newcomer to movies, she was unaware of Bolger's tricks and managed to stay out of the line of fire.
At the time this was made, Warners was actively seeking a replacement.for Gordon MacRae to co-star with Doris Day, since MacRae (and his ego) were both growing ever more impossible to deal with. In addition to Bolger, they tried teaming her with Gene Nelson, Danny Thomas and Robert Cummings. They even briefly considered having studio newcomer Merv Griffin sing and dance with Day, but when his first leading role was rejected by audiences, that idea was abandoned. In one of the final films of her 7-year contract, they brought in Frank Sinatra for Young at Heart. Although Doris and Ol' Blue Eyes clearly had onscreen chemistry, Sinatra was almost as difficult to deal with as MacRae had been.

1986

Image error

*Trivia*
Due to the film being light on violence, it received frequent airings on late-night television, where it gained a large cult following.
One of three horror films from 1986 that take place on April Fool's Day, the others being Killer Party (1986) and Slaughter High (1986).
The picture was shot entirely in British Columbia, Canada, with predominantly American actors.
The cast assembled at a hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia, just prior to filming and began hanging out to build a rapport and hone their characters to make it more believable that they were all actually friends.
The film's French title was "Weekend of Terror", while in Germany it was titled "The Horror Party".

1952

Image error

*Trivia*
In 1951, after 25 years in show business, Gary Cooper's professional reputation was in decline, and he was dropped from the "Motion Picture Herald's" list of the top-ten
box-office performers. In the following year, he made a big comeback, at the age of 51, with this film.
Gary Cooper took a cut in salary to help this get made, taking $50,000 plus a share in the profits instead of his customary $250.000.
There was some question as to the casting of Gary Cooper, since he was 50 and Grace Kelly, playing his wife, was only 21, despite this being fairly commonplace for the period
in which this film was set. Will Kane was only supposed to be about 30.
Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly had an affair that lasted for the duration of filming.

One of the lowest-budgeted films ever shot in CinemaScope and De Luxe color.
This was Victor Mature's final film for Fox, where he had been a contract player for 15 years.
Lee Marvin and Ernest Borgnine appeared together in Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) the same year as "Violent Saturday."
The second of two films featuring Lee Marvin and Ernest Borgnine released in 1955, but they wouldn't make another picture together until The Dirty Dozen (1967).
Many critics did not approve of the violence of the movie.

1960

Image error

*Trivia*
The Magnificent Seven is a 1960 American Western film directed by John Sturges. The screenplay, credited to William Roberts, is a remake – in an Old West-style – of Akira Kurosawa's 1954 Japanese film Seven Samurai (itself initially released in the United States as The Magnificent Seven).
It was Yul Brynner who approached producer Walter Mirisch with the idea of doing a Western adaptation of Akira Kurosawa's classic, Seven Samurai (1954).
Although the film received mixed reviews, John Sturges got a rave from the one source that really mattered to him. Akira Kurosawa was so impressed he sent the American director a ceremonial sword as a gift.
James Coburn was a big fan of Seven Samurai (1954) and his favorite role in that film was the character that he ended up playing in the Americanized version. He deliberately incorporated Seiji Miyaguchi's performance as Kyuzo into his performance.
Mexican censors required the peasants to always be wearing clean clothes, despite being farmers. This caused a huge delay since it meant that dozens of intentionally dirty costumes had to be thoroughly cleaned before filming could commence.
In the original script, as in Seven Samurai (1954), the farmers leave the village to hire mercenaries. This was changed to appease the Mexican censors, who didn't want their country to appear weak or oppressed.
Steve McQueen wanted to act in this film but couldn't at first because the schedule of his TV series, Wanted: Dead or Alive (1958), wouldn't allow it. He crashed a car and while he was "out sick", he shot this film.
The theme song was used in Marlboro cigarette commercials for many years after.

1944

Image error

*Trivia*
Some 20 years before this movie, actress Jean Adair had helped nurse a very ill vaudeville performer, named Archie Leach back to health. After she was asked to reprise her Broadway Arsenic and Old Lace role as Aunt Martha for this film, Adair and Leach (now known as Cary Grant) were old friends.
Although this film was made in late 1941, it was not released until September 1944 because of a contractual obligation between Warner Bros. and the producers of the Broadway show, in which Warner Bros. agreed not to release the film until the end of the play's run.
The Production Code Administration asked filmmakers to tone down the "sex frustration" of the newlywed Elaine and Mortimer. While the eagerness of the newlyweds is apparent in the final cut of the film, the filmmakers complied with the PCA and minimized the couple's frustration in several scenes.
According to Warner Bros. Studio records, Cary Grant received $160,000 for making the film, Frank Capra received $100,000, Raymond Massey's salary was set at $25,000, Peter Lorre earned $13,000, and Jean Adair and Josephine Hull both earned $10,000 for the making of the film.
Even in the setting of a large, forward-thinking city like New York, showing people of different races and ethnicities at the marriage license bureau would have been considered daring at the time.

*Trivia*
This is a "prequel" to A Fistful of Dollars (1964) and For a Few Dollars More (1965), as it is set during the American Civil War while the other two movies are set afterward. Towards the end of this movie, Blondie (Clint Eastwood) acquires his trademark poncho.
Clint Eastwood wore the same poncho through all three "Man with No Name" movies without replacement or cleaning.
Eli Wallach was almost poisoned on the set after drinking acid used to burn the bags filled with gold coin, to make them rip open easier when struck with the spade. He didn't know the acid had been poured into a lemon soda bottle. He drank a lot of milk, and filmed the scene with a mouth full of sores.
Although Clint Eastwood was top-billed in this movie, Eli Wallach has the most screentime.
As a non-smoker, Clint Eastwood hated smoking cigars and Sergio Leone often did multiple takes. According to Eli Wallach, Eastwood would sometimes tell Leone: "You'd better get it this time, because I'm going to throw up."
Filming had a short delay when Clint Eastwood refused to turn up for work until writer and director Sergio Leone agreed to his $250,000 fee, in addition to a new Ferrari.

*Trivia*
Sol Yurick wrote the original book as a rebuttal to the romanticized view of street gangs presented in West Side Story (1961) based on his experience as a New York City welfare department worker.
The film apparently took 60 days to shoot from midnight to 8 am.
The iconic "Warriors, come out to play" scene was completely improvised by David Patrick Kelly after he felt the scripted scene wasn't working.  Walter Hill told him to just "come up with something".  Kelly gathered up some empty beer bottles he found under the boardwalk and created the intimidating dialogue.  Kelly later revealed that he based it on a neighbor who used to intimidate him.
The original poster featured the words "These are the armies of the night. They are 100,000 strong. They outnumber the cops five to one. They could run New York City." This upset and outraged many people; some tried to have the film banned.
In one take, Michael Beck (Swan) swings a bat into Deborah Van Valkenburgh's face (in the scene where he throws it at the cop). She was rushed to the hospital at 3 am for stitches and still has a scar.
President Ronald Reagan was a fan of the film, even calling the film's lead actor, Michael Beck, to tell him he had screened it at Camp David and enjoyed it.
The Warriors sign on the bath house for one of the photos was painted over a real gang's tag. The gang didn't take too well to this, so the producers paid them to be in the film.
Crew members were sent death threats because local gangs were not cast. Thousands of dollars worth of equipment were damaged when one gang tore through the set during a lunch break.
The Homicides were a real Coney Island gang, and they didn't approve of fictional gangs wearing colors on their turf. The wardrobe department made sure nobody walked off-location wearing the Warriors' colors. The actors were safe during the cemetery scene in Brooklyn because of a fence surrounding it.

*Trivia*
The movie was shot in 15 days.
Peter Lorre and Jack Nicholson were fond of ad-libbing their lines, much to the annoyance of Boris Karloff, who was working from the script.
Jack Nicholson always gave high praise to everyone he worked with on the set, except one - the Raven. He said the Raven pooped on everyone, but especially liked to poop on him. He later said: "I would look down when the Raven flew off my shoulder, and it would be covered in poop. I hated that bird."
Vincent Price, as the sorceror "Dr. Erasmus Craven," inspired the creation of Dr. Strange (of Marvel Comics) and in fact became creator Steve Ditko's model for the "Sorceror Supreme"; Dr. Strange's full name is "Stephen *Vincent* Strange," in Price's honor.
Vincent Price later recalled about the final duel: "Boris hated being strung up in the air on those chairs. He was terribly crippled, and we were both floating in the air on these wires. It wasn't a pleasant feeling, and I hated having that snake wrapped around my neck for two hours. I hate snakes."
