| Free VPNs may cost nothing but there is usually a good reason for that. The obvious concern is that any VPN needs to turn a profit, and that can be achieved by selling on data to third-parties in some cases – rather defeating the whole drive for privacy in the first place. So free VPN is not recommended. Free VPN services Tunnelbear Tunnelbear is a free service that constantly impresses people. This VPN is super secure and even opened up its software to third-party analysis last year. The outcome? Security researchers found the VPN to be secure and reliable. It also keeps no logs. The service is restricted to just 500 Mb per month. Despite this, it is brilliant for locations with severe censorship and where privacy is essential. It is perfect for securely unblocking sites. Key information Server locations: 20+ Server number: 1000+ Simultaneous connections: 5 Data limit: 500 MB per month Jurisdiction: Canada Average speed: 25 Mbit/s PROS &CONS + Simple setup, incredibly user friendly + Excellent encryption + Both mobile and desktop clients - No peer-to-peer (P2P) - Few advanced settings - Usage capped Windscribe Windscribe is a relative newcomer to the free VPN scene, but its generous data allowance and commitment to protecting your privacy make it the best around if you need more data than the 500MB free tier with TunnelBear. You get 10GB bandwidth per month as standard and can choose from eight remote server locations with the Windscribe VPN free service. You only need to create a username and password to sign up (an email address is optional, but might prove handy if you forget your password). Windscribe doesn’t store connection logs, IP stamps, or visited sites; when you’re actively connected to a server it stores your username, the VPN server you’re connected to and the amount of data transferred, but this is erased within three minutes of the session ending. Key information Server locations: 11 Server number: 600 Simultaneous connections: 1 Data limit: 10 GB per month Jurisdiction: Canada Average speed: 30 Mbit/s PROS & CONS + Strong encryption + Great privacy policy + Easy to use + Perfect for beginners + High transparency - Limited support options - Usage capped - No Android client Hide.me Hide.me offers both paid and free VPN services, with the latter giving you 2GB of data per month to play with. There are other limits too: you can only connect a maximum of one device, and are limited to three server locations (Singapore, Canada, and Netherlands) rather than the 30 locations paying subscribers get. On the plus side, however, this provider won’t throttle the connection speed of free users, and Hide.me further promises that it keeps no logs and stores no user data, so won’t pass on any data to third-parties in order to try and make a profit (simply because it doesn’t have any data to pass on). There are no adverts here, either. Key information Server locations: 3 Server number: n/a Simultaneous connections: 1 Data limit: 2 GB per month Jurisdiction: Malaysia Average speed: 56.72 Mbit/s PROS & CONS + Strong encryption + Zero logs + Superb privacy policy + Highly experienced customer care - Servers in 3 countries - Doesn't unblock Netflix US Hotspot Shield Hotspot Shield gives users access not only to the VPN but also a Chrome extension. The VPN permits free VPN connections to the US only, but the extension permits connections to 14 countries (but not the US). The result is that Hotspot Shield users can unblock content in 15 countries for free! What's more, Hotspot Shield's free plan lets people have 500 Mb of download use per day. Note: Hotspot Shield’s free VPN offering has recently come under fire from the Center for Democracy & Technology, a pro-privacy non-profit organisation. The CDT has claimed that this provider intercepts and redirects traffic to partner websites which include online advertising firms. Hotspot Shield has denied these allegations and said that it was “dismayed that the CDT did not contact us to discuss their concerns”. Key information Server locations: 25 Server number: n/a Simultaneous connections: 5 Data limit: 500 MB per day Jurisdiction: USA Average speed: 40 Mbit/s PROS & CONS + Free VPN with 500 Mb per day +Free Chrome Extension with ad blocker & cookie blocker + Easy to use + Fast speeds + Plenty of features - Privacy policy could be better - Performance can suffer a bit Also check these threads: Last edited by Angelina on 2018-07-15 19:39:33 | |

| Thanks the info on the free ones above. If you have seedbox or are in the process of getting one, it worth looking for seedbox provider that gives a free VPN connection as part of the package | |

| I would not recommend Opera's built in vpn for torrenting, i've had a nasty from virgin for d'ling one of juggs's flicks. So paid vpn all the way, but please do your homework and suss out firstly and foremost if your id is being leaked from your vpn provider | |

| Depends on what you want a VPN for I suppose, free VPNs are ok if you're just wanting to get into those blocked sites and are not worried about your shit getting sold on or whatever. For torrenting though it's a must to have a paid VPN (do your homework first). It's a rare occasion that I'm online without my VPN.... eg: Netflix. I'm in the UK and also can't get into Argos using it, doesn't matter if I use servers in the UK or anywhere else in the world, it's just an 'oops something went wrong' scenario. Ps: Was having trouble dld'ing a vid off You Tube recently using a browser add-on so installed WinX you Tube Downloader, turns out it won't work with my VPN on. No biggie though. :o) Last edited by sherb on 2019-05-10 13:24:40 | |

| Is the use of ''cracked'' and or stolen NordVPN accounts recommended? I've been using an account for over two years now, you get access to all of the ''premium'' server locations, for free... | |

| First of all, VPN does not stand for “View Porn and Netflix”! Instead of protecting your online privacy, a free VPN will put your security in danger. If you’re connecting to a paid, trusted VPN service that provides a clear no-logs policy then your data is safe. However, if you’re relying on a cheap, free VPN then you’re at high risk. Free VPN providers often sell your data to the third-parties to make money for server maintenance and other stuff. Moreover, free VPNs hardly offer any encryption which means that your online data remains exposed to everyone. In this way, anyone can easily keep an eye on your online activities.
