| OpenVPN allows you to create a secure VPN connection to another network over the Internet. It can be used to access region-restricted websites and shield your browsing and/or torrenting activity from prying eyes. Downloading OpenVPN OpenVPN can be downloaded here (click on logo): Downloading VPN Servers for OpenVPN Check the website of your VPN provider for their VPN servers and download these to your pc. Installing OpenVPN Note: this tutorial uses Windows10 screenshots. When using a different version of Windows, some parts may look different on your version of Windows. Go to the folder where you downloaded OpenVPN to. Right click on the file with your mouse and choose “Run as Administrator”. A window will open. Click on “Next”. If prompted, allow OpenVPN to make changes on your pc. Click on “I Agree” in the window with the License Agreement”. Click on “Next”. Choose the install folder and click on “Install”. After the install is complete, click on “Next”. Uncheck “Show Readme” and click on “Finish”. Adding servers to OpenVPN OpenVPN has no servers of itself and you will have to add them to OpenVPN. Go to the folder where you downloaded the servers to. Right click on the file and choose “Unpack”. Choose the folder where you want to unpack the files. You will now see a folder with server names. Select all files in the folder and copy them. Go to the Config folder of OpenVPN in your program files. You will get a message that only an administrator can transfer files to this folder. Check the little box and click on “continue”. Your servers are now added to OpenVPN. Setting up OpenVPN Go to the OpenVPN icon on your Desktop. Right click on the icon and choose “Run as Administrator”. A new icon will appear in the system tray. Right click on this icon. Choose the server your want to connect to and next choose connect. Enter your username and password provided by your VPN provider and click on “OK”. In Windows10 when connected a balloon will pop-up telling you that you are connected. The OpenVPN icon in the system tray will be green when connected. Changing servers To change server right click on the OpenVPN icon in the system tray. Disconnect the current server. Then choose the server you want to connect to. You might be prompted to give your username and password before connecting to the new server. Change settings of OpenVPN Right click on the OpenVPN icon in the system tray and scroll down to the bottom of the serverlist. Click on “Settings”. In the settings you can change the language of OpenVPN, if you want to Launch OpenVPN on Windows startup and also if you want to see a balloon. Running OpenVPN after starting up Windows When you have set OpenVPN to start during Windows launching, you will see an OpenVPN icon in the system tray. Right click on the icon, choose the server and click on connect. If OpenVPN does not launch on Windows startup, double click on OpenVPN on your desktop.
