A Dogs Plea

Treat me kindly,
my beloved friend,
for no heart in all the world
is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick,
for though I might lick your hand between blows,
your patience and understanding
will more quickly teach me
the things you would have me learn.

Speak to me often,
for your voice is the world's sweetest music,
as you must know
by the fierce wagging of my tail
when the sound of your footstep falls upon my waiting ears.

Please take me inside when it is cold and wet,
for I am a domesticated animal,
no longer accustomed to bitter elements.
I ask no greater glory than the privilege
of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water,
for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.

Feed me clean food
that I might stay well,
to romp and play
and do your bidding,
to walk by your side and stand ready ,
willing and able to protect you with my life,
should your life be in danger.

And, my friend,
when I am very old,
and I no longer enjoy good health,
hearing and sight,
do not make heroic efforts to keep me going.
I am not having fun.

Please see that my trusting life is taken gently.
I shall leave this Earth knowing with the last breath I draw
that my fate was always safest in your hands.

The Life Of A Cupcake

They put me in the oven to bake.
Me, a deprived and miserable cake.
Feeling the heat, I started to bubble.
Watching the others, I knew I was in trouble.

They opened the door and I started my life.
Frosting me with a silver knife,
Decorating me with candy jewels.
The rest of my batch looked like fools.

Lifting me up, she took off my wrapper.
Feeling the breeze, I wanted to slap her.
Opening her mouth with shiny teeth inside,
This was the day this cupcake died.

A Marine's Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone,
In a one bedroom house made of plaster & stone.
I had come down the chimney with presents to give
And to see just who in this home did live.

I looked all about a strange sight I did see,
No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.
No stocking by the fire, just boots filled with sand,
On the wall hung pictures of far distant lands.

With medals and badges, awards of all kind
A sober thought came through my mind.
For this house was different, so dark and dreary,
I knew I had found the home of a soldier, once I could see clearly.

I heard stories about them, I had to see more
So I walked down the hall and pushed open the door.
And there he lay sleeping silent alone,
Curled up on the floor in his one bedroom home.

His face so gentle, his room in such disorder,
Not how I pictured a United States soldier.
Was this the hero of whom I’d just read?
Curled up in his poncho, a floor for his bed?

His head was clean shaven, his weathered face tan,
I soon understood this was more than a man.
For I realized the families that I saw that night
Owed their lives to these men who were willing to fight.

Soon ‘round the world, the children would play,
And grownups would celebrate on a bright Christmas day.
They all enjoyed freedom each month of the year,
Because of soldiers like this one lying here.

I couldn’t help wonder how many lay alone
On a cold Christmas Eve in a land far from home.
Just the very thought brought a tear to my eye,
I dropped to my knees and started to cry.

The soldier awakened and I heard a rough voice,
“Santa don’t cry, this life is my choice;
I fight for freedom, I don’t ask for more,
my life is my God, my country, my Corps.”

With that he rolled over and drifted off into sleep,
I couldn’t control it, I continued to weep.
I watched him for hours, so silent and still,
I noticed he shivered from the cold night’s chill.

So I took off my jacket, the one made of red,
And I covered this Soldier from his toes to his head.
And I put on his T-shirt of gray and black,
With an eagle and an Army patch embroidered on back.

And although it barely fit me, I began to swell with pride,
And for a shining moment, I was United States Army deep inside.
I didn’t want to leave him on that cold dark night,
This guardian of honor so willing to fight.

Then the soldier rolled over, whispered with a voice so clean and pure,
“Carry on Santa, it’s Christmas Day, all is secure.”
One look at my watch, and I knew he was right,
Merry Christmas my friend, and to all a good night!

Lullaby

Lay your sleeping head, my love,
Human on my faithless arm:
Time and fevers burn away
Individual beauty from
Thoughtful children, and the grave
Proves the child ephemeral:
But in my arms till break of day
Let the living creature lie,
Mortal, guilty, but to me
The entirely beautiful.

Soul and body have no bounds:
To lovers as they lie upon
Her tolerant enchanted slope
In their ordinary swoon,
Grave the vision Venus sends
Of supernatural sympathy,
Universal love and hope;
While an abstract insight wakes
Among the glaciers and the rocks
The hermit's carnal ecstacy.

Certainty, fidelity
On the stroke of midnight pass
Like vibrations of a bell
And fashionable madmen raise
Their pedantic boring cry:
Every farthing of the cost.
All the dreaded cards foretell.
Shall be paid, but from this night
Not a whisper, not a thought.
Not a kiss nor look be lost.

Beauty, midnight, vision dies:
Let the winds of dawn that blow
Softly round your dreaming head
Such a day of welcome show
Eye and knocking heart may bless,
Find our mortal world enough;
Noons of dryness find you fed
By the involuntary powers,
Nights of insult let you pass
Watched by every human love.

After My Death!!

Your Tears May Flow For Me But I Won't Be Able To See,
Care For Me Now
You May Send Flowers But I Won't Be Able To Smell,
Send Them Now
You May Say Words Of Praise But I Won't Be Able To Hear
Say It All
You May Forgive All My Faults But I Won't Be Able To Thank Your Greatness
Please Forgive Me Now.

Awake

Shake dreams from your hair
My pretty child, my sweet one.
Choose the day and
choose the sign of your day
The day’s divinity
First thing you see.
A vast radiant beach
in a cool jeweled moon
Couples naked race down by it’s quiet side
And we laugh like soft, mad children
Smug in the woolly cotton brains of infancy
The music and voices are all around us.
Choose, they croon, the Ancient Ones
The time has come again
Choose now, they croon,
Beneath the moon
Beside an ancient lake
Enter again the sweet forest
Enter the hot dream
Come with us
Everything is broken up and dances.

Young man, there's no need to feel down
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy
Young man, there's a place you can go
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough
You can stay there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time
It's fun to stay at the Galaxy
It's fun to stay at the Galaxy
They have everything for you men to enjoy
You can hang out with all the boys
It's fun to stay at the Galaxy
It's fun to stay at the Galaxy
You can get yourself clean, you can have a good meal
You can do what about you feel
Young man, are you listening to me?
I said, young man, what do you want to be?
I said, young man, you can make real your dreams
But you got to know this one thing
No man does it all by himself
I said, young man, put your pride on the shelf
And just go there, to the Galaxy
I'm sure they can help you today
It's fun to stay at the Galaxy
It's fun to stay at the Galaxy
They have everything for you men to enjoy
You can hang out with all the boys
It's fun to stay at the Galaxy
It's fun to stay at the Galaxy
You can get yourself clean, you can have a good meal
You can do what about you feel
Young man, I was once in your shoes
I said, I was down and out with the blues
I felt no man cared if I were alive
I felt the whole world was so tight
That's when someone came up to me
And said, young man, take a walk up the street
There's a place there called the Galaxy
They can start you back on your way
It's fun to stay at the Galaxy
It's fun to stay at the Galaxy
They have everything for you men to enjoy
You can hang out with all the boys
Galaxy you'll find it at the Galaxy
Young man, young man, there's no need to feel down
Young man, young man, pick yourself off the ground
Galaxy, it's fun to stay at the Galaxy
Young man, young man, are you listening to me
Young man, young man, what do you wanna be?
Galaxy, you'll find it Galaxy
No man, young man, does it all by himself
Young man, young man, put your pride on the shelf
Galaxy, and just go to the Galaxy
Young man, young man I was once in your shoes
Young man, young man I was down with the blues, Galaxy

Oh, I wish I'd looked after me teeth,
And spotted the perils beneath,
All the toffees I chewed,
And the sweet sticky food,
Oh, I wish I'd looked after me teeth.

I wish I'd been that much more willin'
When I had more tooth there than fillin'
To pass up gobstoppers,
From respect to me choppers
And to buy something else with me shillin'.

When I think of the lollies I licked,
And the liquorice allsorts I picked,
Sherbet dabs, big and little,
All that hard peanut brittle,
My conscience gets horribly pricked.

My Mother, she told me no end,
"If you got a tooth, you got a friend"
I was young then, and careless,
My toothbrush was hairless,
I never had much time to spend.

Oh I showed them the toothpaste all right,
I flashed it about late at night,
But up-and-down brushin'
And pokin' and fussin'
Didn't seem worth the time... I could bite!

If I'd known I was paving the way,
To cavities, caps and decay,
The murder of fiIlin's
Injections and drillin's
I'd have thrown all me sherbet away.

So I lay in the old dentist's chair,
And I gaze up his nose in despair,
And his drill it do whine,
In these molars of mine,
"Two amalgum," he'll say, "for in there."

How I laughed at my Mother's false teeth,
As they foamed in the waters beneath,
But now comes the reckonin'
It's me they are beckonin'
Oh, I wish I'd looked after me teeth.

To Love Or Not To Love

To Love Or Not To Love
That is the question
Should or shouldn't we
To know love
To be love
You've got to feel love
You've got to know
When your in love
Or not
Do you know how it fills
To be in love
You've got to feel it
It feels so good to be in love
Your head rushes
Your heart beats
A million beats a minute
You can't stand it
When you have to be away
From him/ her for long periods of time
You think about him/ her 24/7
You dream about him/ her
You day dream about him/ her
To love or not to love
To love you've got to know
The risk of what happens
After you love
Not to love you've got to know
That this is really what you want
To feel love you've got to be love
You've got to love him your self
That is why
To love or not to love
Is and has always been
The main question of loving
This is why most people love
Know that they know every thing
About the person and the risks
This is why we love
Because we love him/ her
This is why we don't love
You don't know the person that well
Love and be happy
Or
Not love and be misserble
So I love
Just like others should too

‘TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
(My version…)

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the world,
Stood the guardians of Freedom, some young and some old.

Their rifles were spotless and zeroed with care,
Looking for the danger they know will be there.

They fear for their children at home in their beds,
Yearning for the touch of a kiss on their heads.

And there I was, prepared for the fight,
Wondering when the evil of war would ignite.

When out of the dust there arose such a clatter,
I swiveled around to see what was the matter.

Outside the window I saw a huge flash,
The air tasted rancid, of fuel and of trash.

The sound of my comrades cries in the air,
Sent chills down my spine, to cold to bare.

When, what to my angered eyes should appear,
But a valiant young Soldier, showing no fear!

With bullets whizzing over his head,
I knew in a moment the bad guys were dead.

Out of the smoke, more Soldiers they came,
Young warriors who knew that this was no game.

We deftly maneuvered, aiming to kill,
Secretly saddened by the blood that we spill.

After the battle, on edge and so tired,
We relive the moments each bullet was fired.

Back at the FOB, I lay down and stare,
Thinking of all of the reasons I’m there.

Wiping my face with my own bloodied glove,
I think of my family and all of their love.

I think of their faces with a tear in my eye,
Glad that today was not my turn to die.

I think of America, and all of her beauty,
Honored to serve her, it’s not just my duty.

As I lay in my bed thinking of Christmas,
I smile from the thought of the joy that it brings us.

I know you can’t hear me, but I’m just out of sight,

"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."

A Different Christmas Poem

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.
The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the
Sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.
What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack; brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts...
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "It's really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night."
It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.
No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at 'Pearl on a day in December,"
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures; he's sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother...
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."
"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that, you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

Just read the poem:  A Marine's Night Before Christmas

WOW.  I am completely speechless.  I was crying like a baby.  So very well done.  It's so beautiful and full of every emotion.

Thank you for posting it and letting me read it.

hugs, love always,

God Gave Me....

God gave me eyes so I could see,
God gave me legs so I could walk,
God gave me hands so I could feel,
God gave me ears so I could hear,
God gave me a nose so I could smell,
God gave me a heart so I could love,
God gave me a brain so I could think,
I’m still trying to figure out why God gave me you.

Flight

On silver sand where ripples curled
I counted sea-gulls seven;
Shy, secret screened from all the world,
And innocent as heaven.
They did not of my nearness know,
For dawn was barely bright,
And they were still, like spots of snow
In that pale, pearly light.

Then one went forth unto the sea
That rippled up in gold,
And there were rubies flashing free
From out its wing-unfold;
It ducked and dived in pretty play,
The while the other six
So gravely sat it seemed that they
Were marvelled by its tricks.

Then with a sudden flurry each
Down-rushed to join its mate,
And in a flash that sickle beach
With rapture was elate.
With joy they pranked till everyone
Was diamonded with spray,
Then flicked with flame to greet the sun
They rose and winged away.

But with their going, oh, the surge
Of loss they left in me!
For in my heart was born the urge,
The passion to be free.
And where each dawn with terror brings
Some tale of bale and blight,
Who would not envy silver wings,
The sea-gull in its flight!

Let me not know the soils of woe
That chain this stricken earth;
Let me forget the fear and fret
That bind men from their birth;
Let me be the one with wind and sun,
With earth and sky and sea. . . .
Oh, let me teach in living speech
God’s glory – Liberty.

Silent Tears

Shh...listen, don't you hear?
I'm crying, but they are silent tears.
I'm crying on the inside so you can't see
all the pain running though me .
I cry for you, I cry for me.
I cry for the times I can't,
so if you listen, you may hear my silent tears.

The Workout

I need to lose weight, just a pound or twenty.
If I could lose fifty, well that would be plenty.
I could join a gym, but I don't have the gumption.
My legging clad legs aren't for public consumption.

My exercise bike is succumbing to rust
And only gets touched when I really must dust.
And much like a pet in need of attention,
It made me feel guilty (and slack not to mention).

The solution, of course, was such a no brainer.
I bought it a mate...an elliptical trainer!
This is quite easy! Or so I reckoned
When I tried it in store for a whole fifteen seconds.

But once it was home and I tried it for longer,
The pain in my side was all that got stronger.
I puffed and I gasped, till I couldn't breathe.
Kicked off at nine, it was now nine oh three.

Of course! The resistance must be way too high
But no, it read zero; I thought I might cry.
The six on the dial sat silently mocking,
My level of fitness was really quite shocking.

Motivation was all I that I saw myself losing,
And my self-esteem was taking a bruising.
I tried it to music but all that achieved
It drowned out the sound of my poor creaking knees.

This instrument of torture could go take a hike.
I glanced now with longing at my trusty bike.
I couldn't recall why we had parted ways.
Climbed up on the seat and thought, Happy days!

I pedalled with gusto, but soon I remembered
It felt like my buttocks were being dismembered.
The padding on my derrière is quite thick,
So why does it feel like I'm perched on a brick?

It was just all too hard; I gave up in disgust.
My plan to lose weight was clearly a bust.
Oh well...at least I can say that I tried it.
I mean, really, I can't be expected to diet!

There was a thread called The Bump

Sat all day gif hunting, giving me the hump

Lying there in a crumpled slump

Time to give The Bump the bump

‘Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the state,

Not a family was stirring, on Newsom’s mandate.

Our faces were glum, at laptops we’d stare

At yet one more Zoom, the height of despair.

Our leader, the Donald, was snuggled in bed

Still dreaming of lawsuits, turning blue states to red,

And I with my Lysol, and ma with her mask,

Had just settled down with our take-out, and flask,

When on CNN there arose such a clatter

We turned off our Zooms to see what was the matter

I found the remote; I first tucked my robe in;

Lest I be exposed, just like Jeffrey Tobin.

And there on the tube, as we both took a chug,

Was newscaster Cuomo, and Congressman Doug.

“The moon” was the topic, of proof still to show,

But he’d never been there. So how would he know?

‘Twas painful to watch, the logic was hidin’,

So we switched to Fox, and there was Joe Biden

He said “Here’s the deal, I’ve got some new plans,

“They’re called ‘wear a mask,’ and ‘please wash your hands.”

And when he was asked, “What’s new about that?”

He grew red with anger, this feisty old cat.

“Come on man!” he sneered, a real confronter,

“I’ve laid out it all. And don’t ask about Hunter.”

The news was a dagger, more bad things to hear

As we wondered what else could attack us this year.

From COVID to fires, these 12 months so gruesome.

To cap it all off, here came Gavin Newsom.

His raspy voice roared; the rurals he chided

He came to our fire. (But we weren’t invited.)

He trespassed and sat on another man’s bench,

He blamed climate change, his teeth in full clench.

But that wasn’t all that bothered our gov,

‘Twas talk of a recall; he was losing the love.

The cases were rising; he was in quite a quand’ry

He’d been busted big-time, out at the French Laundry

With a dozen or more friends, showing resistance

to Newsom’s own rule: “Be socially distanced.”

So he fought back with anger, said “I’ll shut it down,”

With tiers red and purple — the tiers of a clown?

We turned off the tube, and looked at the snow

The flask it was empty, we’d nowhere to go

We wondered who led us, and how we got there

Trump said “it would vanish. Into the thin air.”

Instead 9 months later, we’ve nowhere to flee

We’re locked down at home — or really, are we?

Some places are open. Some still won’t shut down.

In fact, there’s still respite at our end of town.

So we Ubered past closed shops, the ones they deemed dangers,

Like hair shops, and gyms, and churches with mangers,

We didn’t dare stop in the fresh-fallen snow,

For one certain store was the right place to go.

And our night quickly gained a whole new potential

Merry Christmas to all; at least beer is essential.

Old Age Is Hell

My body is stiff,
Got cramps in my legs,
Corns on my feet
Big as hen's eggs.

Sex life is short,
It’s a thing of the past.
Don’t kid yourself friend,
Even that don’t last.

Gas in my stomach,
Elimination is poor;
Take Ex-Lax at night
And then I’m not sure.

Can't go to parties...
Don’t dance anymore;
Just putting it mildly,
I’m a hell of a bore.

I soak in the tub
So my body won’t swell...
It’s just like I said,
Old age is hell.

Liquor is out...
Can't take a chance.
Bladder is weak...
Might pee in my pants.

My teeth are decaying,
Eyesight is poor...
Hair falling out
All over the floor.

Nothing to plan for...
Nothing to expect;
Just the mailman each month
With my retirement check..
