Every year, October 2nd brings the inspiring and soot h i ng memory of a great soul who gave the message of peace. It is the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, and the United Nations Organisation has designated this day as the International Day of Non-violence.
There are several such important dates, etched deep in the collective memory of the world. Some bring good memories and send inspiring messages. Some evoke memories that are bad and hurtful, and remind us of history's painful lessons, and of the need to be on the alert.
This issue of Tell Me Why tells you a bout many such days that are recognised as International Days of Observance. It also covers other days of importance, like National Days and some dates specifically of importance in this year. For instance, the 500th death anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci falls this year. So also does the 100th year of the tragic massacre at the Jallianwala Bagh.
