DENNIS THE FOX “MOTHERTRUCKER” In September of 1972, my then-manager Dave Clark and I made a foray to Los Angeles to secure a record deal with a major label. The demo tapes we brought with us had been recorded that summer is a series of sessions in a small studio in Seattle and reflected a myriad of songwriting and artistic styles with which I had been experimenting at the time. One of the songs, “Whistle Stop,” was even the theme song for a rock-opera motion picture that was never produced. To our dismay, the record labels found the material “too versatile” for their marketing purposes and ultimately we elected to release the material with MusArt, a small independent company. Only 1,000 copies of the LP were ever pressed, a fact that became significant only a few years ago when dozens of rare-vinyl collectors from around the world contacted me via the Internet seeking the last few copies of the original. Now, 35 years later, “Mothertrucker” is finally being reissued albeit on CD. - Dennis Caldirola, Seattle
