The acclaimed psych-folk trio Hands of the Heron from Bristol will release their third album, Quiet Light, on November 22, 2024, via their own label Cuculi Records. The album was recorded in spring 2024 at The Roost, in collaboration with producer Rowan Elliott. It features 12 tracks exploring themes of burnout, recovery, care, and friendship, unified by imagery of water, light, and shadow.
Since 2017, the group’s lineup has changed, but the trio of Bec Garthwaite, Beth Roberts, and Claire Vine has become its core. They founded a DIY label to release their own albums and music by peers from the alt-folk community. The album blends vocal harmonies, strings, guitar, double bass, and jazz elements. Half of the tracks are purely vocal, showcasing their confidence in precise and expressive compositions.
Each member’s unique style enriches the sound: Claire’s folk influences, Beth’s jazz harmonies, and Bec’s alt-pop structures come together to create a cohesive and mature work. Quiet Light is the result of their collective creativity and mutual inspiration.
