Roxy Music is a British art rock band founded in 1971 by vocalist and pianist Bryan Ferry. The band's work combined ironic poetry, virtuoso performance and stylish stage productions filled with images of high fashion, kitsch and commercial photography. A characteristic feature of the band's early works was a symbiosis of nostalgia and modernism. Rock critic Lester Bangs called the work of early Roxy Music "a triumph of theatricality", believing that it embodied the very essence of camp art - the ability to "... tell the truth with a lie." Ira Robbins (Rolling Stone/Trouser Press) called Roxy Music "arguably the most influential rock band of the '70s." In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine included the band in the list of the 100 most outstanding performers and groups of our time.
