Flaming Ember were a white Rock group out of Detroit that was similar to Rare Earth in that they had a liking for Soul music. They had a series of hits in the early-1970s. Sunshine was released during the heyday of that success, and contains one of their biggest songs, I’m Not My Brother’s Keeper that can still be heard on some oldies stations today. A good introduction to their sound can be heard on the opening Living High, Money Low, which contrasts some Rock tinged singing with a soulful backing. There’s also Gotta Get Away that has a real nice drum and vocal breakdown in the middle. ………

The blue-eyed soul band’s third Hot Wax LP continues the soulful grooves paved on two previous long-players. A longstanding Detroit club band, it was widely believed they first cut on Ric Tic Records, but they actually debuted on Jack and Devora Brown’s Fortune setup. Leader Jerry Plunk wrote some tracks, with others handled by Hot Wax’s electric producing and writing corp. The themes fluctuate from message songs like “I’m Not My Brother’s Keeper” to stark love missions like “1200 Miles From Heaven.” Additional takes “Sunshine,” the acid blues, more than seven minutes long, bonging “Ember’s Groove,” and “Stop the World and (Let Me Off)” make this a winning package…by Andrew Hamilton..allmusic…
