Hope Goldman has a new line of "Italian" skincare products—and she’s got it in spades. Determined to make a splash in the industry, she eagerly begins distributing her products. However, her efforts hit a snag when her competition opens up shop right across the street, sparking a chain of escalating drama. As Goldman suspects foul play, her pursuit of the truth plunges her into increasingly dangerous territory. Banks excels in this role, mixing earnest determination with escalating extremes as the plot intensifies. About two-thirds of the way through, the film shifts into a darker, more intense mode characteristic of Coen Brothers' noir, with violence that's both swift and strikingly absurd. Lewis Pullman adds to the chaos with a coke habit and a cupped baseball bat that gets a workout. The movie is blandly watchable and to a degree predictable—but will hold your attention up to the end. |
