This re-release of the self-titled "The Parasites of the Western World's" first album in 1978 is because, now almost thirty years later, the original pressings (their were only 1500 ever made) are still in circulation among private collectors.

The album goes for more than $500.00 in some cases (no kidding-see Gemm). For those who don't care to spend that kind of money and would simply like a nice clean copy of the music, here it is.

In addition there is a bonus cut, "Zytol Automation" which was the first song recorded after the album was completed, and featured on the B-side of the Parasites' only 45. The A-side was the still relevant "Politico".

The Parasites of the Western World are generally acknowledged to have been ahead of their time in the Avant Rock genre. They were the first to independently record and release a full length LP in the Portland, Oregon area (others were only doing single's then) and sold the bulk of their records overseas in France, England, Germany and a host of smaller European nations (including Yugoslavia which was Communist at the time.)

For more information just Google The Parasites of the Western World and take a look what people have been saying over the years and into the present. We hope you enjoy re-visiting or perhaps discovering this unique music.

Review:
The Parasites of the Western World
by Tony Maygarden

Modern technology has brought the cost of high quality audio gear down to a level where just about anyone (assuming that they know what they're doing) can make a professional sounding recording in his/her basement or bedroom. This has led to a DIY (Do It Yourself) ethos that is now pervasive. Fully fleshed out recordings created entirely by one or two people, and released on private labels, are a dime a dozen these days. But way back in 1978, the complexity and cost of recording and releasing an album was far beyond the ways and means of most musicians -- but not The Parasites of the Western World!
