This book covers need for 6G connectivity arising from the pursuit of higher data speeds, ultra-low latency, massive IoT connectivity, enhanced spectral efficiency, and the facilitation of new and transformative applications. By addressing these drivers and expectations, 6G aims to revolutionize wireless communication, opening up a realm of possibilities for industries, societies, and individuals.
Technological improvements and evolutions are required beyond fifth-generation (5G) networks for wireless communications as well as in the industry where the involvement of collaborative robots (COBOT) will satisfy the personal needs of human beings as and when required leading to human–machine interactions. A considerable amount of effort has been devoted, both in industry and academia, towards the performance modelling, evaluation and prediction of convergent multi-service heterogeneous, future-generation networks such as 6G.
The 5G revolutionized various industries and transformed the way we interact with technology, providing a foundation for emerging technologies and applications that require ultra-fast and reliable connectivity. As technology continues to advance, the wireless communication landscape will continue to evolve, paving the way for even more exciting innovations in the future with next-generation networks by applying intelligent networks capable of dealing with various network challenges with increased volume, density, complexities, and security with 6G. Several key drivers and expectations contribute to the push for 6G connectivity, are broadly include:
Data volume and speed demands: With the growing prevalence of data-intensive applications, such as ultra-high-definition video streaming, virtual and augmented reality, and cloud-based services, the volume of data being data speeds, potentially reaching multi-terabit per second rates, to meet the demands of such data-heavy applications.
Ultra-low latency: Some applications, like real-time gaming, autonomous vehicles, and remote robotic control, require ultra-low latency to function effectively and safely. 6G is expected to significantly reduce latency, possibly reaching sub-millisecond levels, enabling seamless and instantaneous interactions between devices and the network.
Massive IoT connectivity: The Internet of Things (IoT) is set to become even more pervasive, with billions of connected devices expected to be deployed across industries. 6G seeks to provide the capacity and efficiency to support this massive influx of IoT devices, allowing seamless connectivity and communication between devices and the cloud.
Enhanced spectral efficiency: To cope with the growing number of con nected devices and the demand for higher data rates, 6G is expected to improve spectral efficiency. This means that 6G networks will be able to transmit more data using the same amount of spectrum, optimizing the utilization of the available frequency bands.
Enabling new applications and use cases: 6G is anticipated to enable novel applications and use cases that were not feasible with previous generations. This includes holographic communication, real-time translation, advanced AI-powered services, and immersive extended reality experiences, among others.
Integrated satellite and terrestrial networks: 6G is envisioned to integrate terrestrial and satellite networks, providing global coverage and connectivity in remote and underserved areas. This integration can expand the reach of communication networks and bridge the digital divide.
Technical topics discussed in the book include:
Network security and attacks
6G applications and Industry 5.0
Human centric interface
Green computing in wireless cellular networks
Next generation networks (IOT, Cloud Computing, Big Data, etc.)
