Imaginary, il film diretto da Jeff Wadlow, racconta la storia della piccola Alice (Pyper Braun), che dopo essersi trasferita nella casa d’infanzia della sua matrigna Jessica (DeWanda Wise), trova il suo orsacchiotto Teddy dal quale non si separa più.
Inizialmente sembra essere tutto normale, Alice è particolarmente attaccata a Teddy e gioca con lui come farebbe qualsiasi bambina della sua età. Ma gradualmente, Jessica si rende conto che i giochi si fanno sempre più estremi e inquietanti. La bambina dice che è l'orsacchiotto a ordinarglielo, parla di lui come se fosse un amico immaginario che le suggerisce di fare cose pericolose e fuori dal suo controllo.
La donna allarmata, decide di chiedere l'aiuto di una psicologa, la dottoressa Alana Soto (Veronica Falcón), e impedisce ad Alice di giocare con Teddy. Ma questo gesto avrà conseguenze inimmaginabili tra cui la scomparsa della bambina
