Title:
La Haine (1995)
Genre:
Crime, Drama
Runtime:
98 min    -    Rating: 8.1
Plot:
The film follows three young men and their time spent in the French suburban "ghetto," over a span of twenty-four hours. Vinz, a Jew, Saïd, an Arab, and Hubert, a black boxer, have grown up in these French suburbs where high levels of diversity coupled with the racist and oppressive police force have raised tensions to a critical breaking point. During the riots that took place a night before, a police officer lost his handgun in the ensuing madness, only to leave it for Vinz to find. Now, with a newfound means to gain the respect he deserves, Vinz vows to kill a cop if his friend Abdel dies in the hospital, due the beating he received while in police custody.

avatarJust finished watching this remux, and it was also my first time watching the film. Both the remux and the film itself are great. It, at least to me, looks better than the 2160p Framestor one I had saved, since that wasn't the new Criterion disc. As for suggestions, like someone said, including chapters (personally I don't care for them at all, but I know a lot do), more commentary tracks when possible like the Framestor disc has 4 tracks, so for some people, I think that would help as a choosing factor. And lastly, including subtitles from other discs and web-dl. I think this is the biggest suggestion I have, and for me, it's the deciding factor on which remux I watch. Great first remux, hoping we see more, and if we do, I have a suggestion: Werckmeister Harmonies also just got a 4k release from Criterion, and I cannot find any remuxes for it. Keep up the good work.
