 | Movie had potential, but then it dragged and the ending was very unsatisfying. It felt like the director couldn't decide what he wanted the movie to be, a horror supernatural or a grisly but straight-up thriller. Guy Pearce is a great actor and he turned in his usual stellar performance. Alex Pettyfer however, appeared to sleepwalk throughout the movie, more a sign of bad director that a bad actor. This movie is a good example of a good concept, good actors, good cinematography and production values, all let down by bad direction and scriptwriting. There are scenes where the camera lingers and lingers on a character's face until the audience start to fidget and wonder what the point of that is. That kills momentum, fatal to any movie. |

| Had downlaoded it weeks ago and finally decided to watch it. Man what a crapfest Even watching on projector didn't redeem the pathetic editing/direction/script. I went to sleep in first half watched it next day and fwrded many times to make the movie move a faster pace. |

| I'm a Guy Pearce fan which is the only reason I watch this fairly dark "crime" drama.....I'm not really sure its really sunk in yet though, so I will have to watch it again, at time it left me feeling confused though, the flash backs didn't make sense. I wasnt sure if it was a dog or a pile of intestines at the end of a chain - there didnt seem to be any connection to the mysterious man in the trench coat to the name "redcoat". This wasnt a bad movie but im not sure i'd say it was good either... |

| Not bad, not great. Given all other releases lately, I thought this was one of the better movies out at the moment, but it could've been a lot better. The acting was fine. Guy Pierce always delivers and the rest of the cast was decent. This felt like something along the lines of The Ritual meets The Village meets (I can't think of the name, but an old racist mother runs her family of dumb redneck criminals) and being filmed in the area that those Twilight twinks lived in. I think it could've been a lot better if they leaned into the Red Coat aspect some more and focused less on how scummy the white family is. I would've liked to have seen more retribution and just-comeuppance, but they went with a more low-key, almost plausible story line. It's interesting to see how closely Guy Pierce and Kurt Yeager look alike as brothers in this. Pettyfer was good in his role and Crystal Yu is a new name to me, but she fit well in her role as well. Again, not bad at all, I really liked the atmosphere of that area of the Pacific Northwest, but I would've liked to see more of the stuff that was alluded to for the sake of keeping the movie grounded. A few unanswered questions for me, but I won't lose sleep. 7.8/10 for me. |
