Settled Out of Court by Henry Cecil PDF
"Another superb Cecil. Are there no limits to the powers of this wonder man?" - P.G. Wodehouse
"Now we can welcome (Cecil) back to the mystery form with the delightful and outrageous SETTLED OUT OF COURT." — Anthony Boucher, The New York Times Book Review, January 10, 1960
"He uses light entertainment to sugar the pill of serious inquiry into the workings of the law... He has a positively Shavian gift for standing an argument on its head when you least expect it." — The Times [London]
"... one of a handful of candidates for best Cecil novel." — Jon L. Breen, Novel Verdicts
Lonsdale Walsh found it unpleasant to be convicted of murder, especially since he had been convicted on perjured evidence. That was particularly trying to Mr. Walsh for he was very allergic to lies. From prison he petitioned the House Secretary and wrote to his MP. But all attempts to get his case reviewed failed.
He summoned his daughter, Angela, asking her to locate a barrister with intelligence of the highest class and a resilient mind, but above all a chap who was not hidebound by tradition. He also wanted her to look for a High Court Judge with the same qualifications.
And so Mr. Walsh escaped from prison, gathered all the principals in his case, and proceeded to stage his own re-trial. He wanted the matter SETTLED OUT OF COURT.
