BBC R3 - 'Do What You Will' [Rabelais]
Presented by Julian Evans
Readings by Kenneth Cranham
Produced by Richard Bannerman
Broadcast March 30, 2003
Coded from tape at 128/44.1

Broadcast on the 450th anniversary of Rabelais' death

François Rabelais had knowledge of medicine, theology and Classical literature.
He was one of the cornerstones of the Renaissance. His series of novels about
giants Gargantua and Pantagruel celebrated life in its excesses. His theme is
summed up by Gargantua's instruction to the inmates of his monastery:
'Do What You Will'.

Julian Evans talks about Rabelais' life and work to some of those for whom
the work is one of the great literary treasures.
