A tragicomic movie which focuses on two women and their daily struggle for survival during a summer in Berlin. Katrin, a jobless single mom, and Nike, a nurse, live in the same house and are best friends. Although always dating the wrong men and still pursuing for happiness, they don't lose their humor and spend many nights together on Nike's balcony, drinking and chatting. However, Nike gets to know the trucker Ronald one day...
When you read the title ‘Summer on the Balcony’ you probably think it will be a light Berlin summer comedy but it’s not. This film is an intimate study of two women friends who come to each other because of troubles with everyday life and with men and thus try to enjoy a life based on their ideas.
In ein und demselben Haus in Berlin wohnen Nike und Katrin. Auf Nikes Balkon sitzen die beiden oft und gehen so mancher Schwärmerei nach. Karin sucht einen Mann, der zugleich ein guter Vater für ihren Sohn ist. Nike hingegen träumt von einem richtigen Kerl. Dieser Traum geht schon bald in Form des Lastwagenfahrers Ronald in Erfüllung und nistet sich sogleich bei ihr ein. Währendessen verliebt sich Karin in einen Apotheker.
