The original show was exceptional and fun and mysterious and sci-fi all rolled up into one ... loved it! This one is a big joke! Note that I have checked out Galaxy's Torrents compared to the others, and there is no comparison. Galaxy nailed it on this show. Too bad I didn't like it. Oh, well! |
Total n00b here; my post got mangled there at the end. Just wanted to say that THIS episode isn't representative of Quantum Leap 2022 as a whole. Yes, there are "woke" nods and groan-inducing moments, but those were more often just asides before characters and the plot moved on. THIS episode of Quantum Leap, though, was different, in that it practically clobbers the audience, abandoning any pretense at nuance or complexity, at the expense of the broader plot. Ironically, it even fails as agit-prop: I've seen Twitter threads that had more sophisticated, nuanced and informed takes on these social issues than this episode. (Perhaps that should be a clue to the writers; this medium is well-suited to entertainment, not so much to agit-prop, even if that is your thing.) I can only hope that this episode perhaps served as a purgative for the writers, an opportunity to get it all out of their system, before returning to the main event. |
In a way, the focus on the show being "woke" is a bit misplaced. Yes, this episode in particular is that. But the issue has more to do with whether your focus, as a writer, producer, etc. is to entertain or to "educate" or spread specific message. The word I'm looking for, I think, is "didactic." Here, complex and sometimes ambiguous issues are simplified beyond recognition; we have only white hats and black hats, sympathetic trans characters and their allies, who are on the side of justice and right, and evil, intolerant haters who drive their victims into homelessness and suicide, without remorse. However, you'll see a similar kind of problem if you watch explicitly Christian films starring Kevin Sorbo - the emphasis on "the message" crowds out complex character building, subtle plot twists, or any ability to offer deeper reflection. Everything instead is about the message. When you see that, you realize that complaining about the show being "woke" misses something, and traps one into a polarized box where one is complaining (justifiably!) about the "woke" vs fans of that perspective, when that isn't quite the problem, which is propagandistic, didactic writing. It's not hard to get the impression that such writers see themselves as enlightened, with an audience they're talking down to, or even one they detest for their ignorance. Call me crazy, but that's just not a fun watch, regardless of whether one agrees with "the message," regardless of whether the "message" is wokeness, Sorbo's Christian conservatism, or anything else. Consider, as a contrast, the reboot of Battlestar Galactica from the 00's. One of the things the show was praised for was its refusal to engage in that. Instead, to the degree such hot button issues as abortion, the ethics of war, and so forth arose, the show refused to simplify things. Instead, it threw curveballs, leaving no easy answers to complex questions, requiring people to grapple whether their priors were conservative or liberal. That kept plots fresh and unpredictable, and allowed characters the dignity of complex characterization. This said, I don't want to leave anyone with the impression that Quantum Leap 2022 is only a "woke" series writ large. On the whole, it's actually been an okay series for the most part. Not quite as good as the original, but more than enough interesti |
This type of BooHoo#Me crap is why the USA is a joke everywhere in the world now! Aliens are probably laughing through their 3rd eye butt-holes in hyper-space about how our nation has become "The Great Wokapotamus"! Such a sad ending to a once great hope! |
And almost forgot: thanks as always to Galaxy for the reliable, high quality torrent here! |
First of all, thank you, Galaxay for such and exceptional quality torrent! And sorry, I didn't explain my dislike for the show in the other post. As others pointed out it's very "woke." It's all the woke nonsense that goes with the show and so many others like it that hurts it. As a matter of fact, this one is SO over the top, blatant and purposeful, that it terribly detracts from the storyline to the point of missing the mark completely. It's SO sad that this has to be such a major factor in almost all entertainment production these days. Note that when I play on stage, there ain't NOTHING woke about it! It's just all ass-kickin' songs about love and loss and life and family and hope! Nothing about genders and skin colors and politics and hurt feelings and divisiveness and cry-baby shit. We're all the same, man. We're people. Too bad we just can't live and love and let live and love, and get the woke people off the other people's backs. |
