if ellie in the game is a ferrari the one in the show is a lada |
the girl in the game is pretty - the girl in this is.....oh dear |
The character in the game was based on a famous actress that is an actor now. Not an option anymore. |
Character based on a cute actress, unavailable now because of reasons. |
umm... not sure what is meant to be wrong with her? looks fine to me |
Yep, Ellie's looks come from former Ellen, now Elliot, and he's 35 now, so out of the question. |
Yes Ellie is based on Ellen, now Elliot Page, a new casting was necessary, stop complaining |
obviously i wouldn't be expecting to see ellen/elliot page - but they should have switched roles with the girl who played joel's daughter - she just seems far more likeble to me |
they made a bad choice - maybe she's a good actress but she just doesn't suit this particular role at all |
@Guest-3707 What's this fascination with likeability? Joel's daughter grew up in a protective world. Ellie grew up in a destroyed world, in a military camp. Of course Ellie is rougher around the edges than Joel's daughter. |
after the decent first half hour it was pretty dull to be honest and i can see it going that way with the occasional action set piece thrown in |
i think it could be really good. its a cross between "Y the last man" and "The walking dead" both shows i like a lot |
Being good in one thing doesn't automatically make you good in everything you are in. People who suit one role don't necessarily suit another. |
i would have had the girl who plays joel's daughter playing ellie - instead of who we got , such a waste as she was far more likeable |
How does that make sense? Ellie grew up in a completely rougher environment, so she is naturally more rough. The writers made the character true to her circumstances. Likeability has nothing to do with it, unless you want all females to fit into a neat stereotype. |
Guest4263 actually rougher environment actually makes you weaker because of the trauma. the first episode eluded to that with PTSD flashbacks etc |
This isn't meant to be an insult or whatever, but Joel looks like a mash-up or Burt Reynolds and Chris Pratt. |
I am not a gamer , so I tried to watch this and was overwhelmed by é "déjà vue" feeling. is it really necessary not to repeat this walking dead zombie bullshit over and over again? |
They aren't really zombies... They are infected with a kind of parasite. |
This looks really good, but can I watch it if I haven't played the games? Is there backstory or context I will be missing? |
You don't need to play the games, this is the full story told again from zero. Having said so, you can see the game version on YouTube: 1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzmXbHHefMY 1b) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mq9bTvUEthE 2)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I85nAZD6-Ek&list=PLMB_lYcuWDU2DZ9kkxTq37jmPntDFpl-u |
Loved the first episode now we have to wait a whole week I could have binged the whole season today |
Here's a tip: If you leave your weapon unattended 2 mts away just to take a leak, don't complain if they kill you. |
Thanks TGX for providing a 500mb version next to all the 10gb ones. Makes it easier to check this out! |
I'm still not pleased about Ellie's casting, but it's time to see how this holds up. |
I honestly don't get why some folks have such pre-conceived notions of who should and shouldn't be cast. In the end the producers & directors need to make the call, not fans with narrow views. The series is a passive medium (compared to the interactive game), so depth and range of acting is more important than looks. |
Guest-5707: Whoa rare W from a guest. Absolutely agreed. |
Why? She already showed what an excellent actor she was in game of thrones as Lyana Mormont. I think shes ideal for the role! |
Well, I watched the episode and I think she sucks. I don't remember Ellie being so disagreeable and unlikable. Not sure why people feel the need to defend the casting when it doesn't fit the role. |
Well, as you said, you don't remember ellie being unlikable. Play the game again to refresh your memory because she was very very unlikable at first. |
@helpme Without giving away spoilers, Ellie turns even more "hardened" in Part II of the game. That will be very challenging to adapt. No doubt lots of folks with narrow views won't be able to stomach the twist in the narrative. |
I played the games. The difference is that I took to the Ellie character immediately as she was presented in the game. I don't know why this version of Ellie seems like such a precocious brat, and honestly I don't think her American accent passes muster. Feels like she's overacting or something, it doesn't feel natural |
@helpme A few story elements had to be changed to fit into a TV series, resulting wtih Ellie being chained up for weeks. Anybody would be quite peeved off and in a very foul mood in that situation. The writers wisely chose to portray Ellie as reacting to her predicament, rather than blindly copying the game character. |
@Guest-1101 - Again, you've only seen one episode, like me. Not sure why people are so keen on blindly supporting this casting. It's been this way ever since she got the role, before anyone saw the footage. She has to carry this show with Pedro Pascal, so it remains to be seen how it unfolds, but so far, I'm not sold. |
Funny how female characters have to be "likeable" to be respected, while male characters can be total douches and still be respected. Ellie's casting is fine as it is, for those not precious about it. |
Don't make it political. There's a difference between anti-heroes who are unlikable/unredeemable and characters who are repugnant/egregiously cast. As one of the two leads, they needed a stronger choice to carry the series. I don't care what other differences they made to the show, Ellie is supposed to be sympathetic. |
they are are seriously over hyping this show - its just another spin on walking dead and many were tired of that years before it ended |
That 's problem with child actors/actress; they'll already type-casted if they've done more then one season in any show or more then two movies. |
