The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the most disruptive technologies, enabling ubiquitous and pervasive computing scenarios. IoT is based on intelligent self-configuring nodes (also known as things) interconnected in a dynamic and global collaborative network infrastructure. In contrast, Cloud computing has virtually unlimited capabilities in terms of storage and processing power, speed, and is a more mature technology. Due to intrinsic nature of Cloud computing and IoT, they both complement each other. Recently, we are witnessing an increasing trend in exploiting use of both Cloud and IoT together.
The goal of this book is to present the state of the art in the application of IoT, cloud, and cloud IoT. In this endeavor, the book is divided into four parts.
Part I focuses on the infrastructural issues when integrating IoT and cloud. Chapter 1 discusses the challenges generated by the integration of cloud and IoT and offers some possible solutions. Chapter 2 discusses the practical implementation of an asset management system according to ISO 55001, offering some implications for cloud and IoT. Chapter 3 discusses cloud enterprise systems and their evolution to Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Chapter 4 discusses decision making of the optimum inspection interval of a motor- fan assembly gaining advantage from cloud IoT for inspection, monitoring, testing, and preventive measures.
Part II focuses on some cloud and IoT solutions addressing the crucial issue of climate change. Chapter 5 discusses a cloud- based solution that can be used to identify threats to marine ecosystems and to issue an early warning. Chapter 6 directs its focus on smart poultry farms that can generate their own power using solar devices. Chapter 7 discusses the use of cloud IoT for pollution monitoring, a key step in addressing climate change. Chapter 8 discusses software solutions for energy balance calculations in energy management systems for smart buildings.
Part III discusses smart living in different contexts. Chapter 9 focuses on an application of current relevance, by providing a comparison of cloud- IoT- based frameworks for identification and monitoring of medical cases. Continuing in the domain of digital health, Chapter 10 discusses telemedicine, telehealth, and e- health, outlining a digital transfiguration of standard healthcare systems using cloud and IoT. The next two chapters move to the domain of smart cities. Chapter 11 offers the design of a smart accident prediction system, and Chapter 12 discusses an efficient lightweight location privacy scheme for the Internet of Vehicles (IoV). Chapter 13 discusses energy- efficient vehicle registration protocol in VANET environment preserving privacy at the same time.
Part IV focuses on the security aspect in IoT and cloud. Chapter 14 outlines an emotion-independent face recognition- based security protocol in IoT- enabled devices. The next two chapters bring blockchain into the focus by Chapter 15 discussing blockchain- based web 4.0 and Chapter 16 highlighting the significance of elliptic curve cryptography in blockchain IoT. Chapter 17 discusses the application of a bio- inspired metaheuristic approach for lightweight trust evaluation in IoT networks. Finally, Chapter 18 discusses an authentication protocol for e- payment systems using smart cards.
Salient Features
Presents latest developments in Cloud computing
Presents latest developments in Internet of Things
Establishes links between interdisciplinary areas where IoT and Cloud both can play a role for improvement of process
Intends to provide an insight into non-IT related models for improvement of lives
Bridges the gap between obsolete literature and current literature
