. David "Lord" Sutch was the most flamboyant British politicians who never one an election. He contested approximately 40 political elections. . He was also one of the finest rock 'n' rollers in the UK with his backing band The Savages (Ritchie Blackmore was once a member). For some time his shows would start with him climbing out of a black coffin at the centre of the stage. On one occasion, unfortunately, he got stuck inside it His most famous release is probably "Jack The Ripper" . In 1983, after many active years in politics, Mr Sutch founded the Official Monster Raving Loony Party. For a minor candidate he managed to get a lot of "face time" on television during elections. Maybe it was his "fancy dress" and top hat that the TV people liked. . Back in 1963, when the BBC Radio didn't like playing"popular" music, Mr Sutch took over a WWII fort in the Thames Estuary and set up a pirate radio station named Radio Sutch - of course. . He died in 1999 and is much missed by fans of his music but not by the politicians . |
