| Glad to see Lisa Joy is back writing the season again after whatever the fuck season 3 wound up being. Yes, fire destroyed their main Old Western town sets and I'm sure they had to adjust the story accordingly. However, whoever they let helm the writing last season really didn't seem to "get" what it is about this show that draws people in and it felt like a pale imitation of what made season 1 (and to a lesser extent but still pretty great season 2) a basically flawless and incredible story to watch. Seriously, I had no idea whatsoever what I was about to watch when I downloaded that first episode and by the end, when Dolores swatted that fly, I was absolutely hooked. Aside from the puzzle-box aspect of the narrative, the mystery of what lay in the other parks, the Native American characters, SIR ANTHONY HOPKINS absolutely killing his role, and the Western motifs in the music & aesthetics as well as those sweeping landscapes, juxtaposed with the futuristic tech and morality (or more accurately, lack thereof) of a much more technologically advanced human population was a BIG draw. The further away from the parks they go with the story, the less I seem to care about the story. The sci-fi tropes are becoming more predictable as time goes on and instead of subverting them, they seem to just be leaning into them instead. Season 4 is off to a somewhat middling start so far but it's been much better than S03, it *feels* more like the first 2 seasons, and I just hope we get a satisfying story that will allow the writers to refocus on the parks and characters that made this show so freaking amazing in the first place.
Long rant about the show aside, thanks much for the upload! |
