Information
------------------------------

History in the Making is a documentary series that reveals the addictive and endlessly entertaining process of making historically significant item using the original, time-honored methods.
Across the nation and around the world, there are craftsmen who are creating unique items using the same methods from decades, centuries, even millennia in the past. This growing number of experts are producing handcrafted goods which are astonishingly beautiful, tough as nails and coveted the world over. The process of watching them work is not just fascinating: it also gives us a dynamic, living glimpse back in time to see how some of the most significant items in history were made. On the one hand, implements of war such as old armor or imposing swords are reproduced in detail. But also civilian achievements such as the first printing presses or an ancient beer product are meticulously reconstructed.
Each episode introduces three different products of the past - while also focusing on the trades that have shaped the present as we know it through their craft activities. In each 30-minute episode, History in the Making will vividly present the process - using the original techniques - in the recreation of three items: a tool, a weapon, a machine or a vehicle of historical importance. Combining the joy of discovering how things are made with the fascinating historical facts that surround them; this is the show that reveals History in the Making.

Crooked Horse Productions /Making History Productions Limited

1)  Jeep/Carillon Bell/Hudson Bay Axe
Traditional craftspeople restore and create historical artefacts. Featuring one of the vehicles used during war that is now back on the road after decades; Carillon Bell and how to make it; and the Hudson Bay Axe.
The Jeep is one of the world's most legendary utility vehicles, and in this episode Markus Schneider restores the well-worn warhorse back to driving condition.
Robust, powerful, suitable for off-road use and comparatively easy to repair: During the Second World War, the jeep was the US armed forces' most important means of transport on the ground. Markus Schneider is a passionate mechanic and has turned his hobby into a career. Today, the professional restorer shows how an old military jeep built in 1942 can be restored to its former glory.
Other items in this episode include the ancient art of bell casting and a versatile tool from the far north, the Hudson Bay axe. We meet Benjamin Sunderlin, who makes the heavy so-called Carillon bell by hand. Finally, Liam Hoffman crafts the incomparable Hudson Bay axe.
