Midwich, a small English commuter town, is liberal and aspirational, populated by families and affluent streets. A place where nothing much happens - that is until the twilight hours of a summer's day when a sleepy corner of Midwich is plunged into panic. People pass out on their feet without warning, without reason. Anyone who tries to enter meets the same fate. And nobody can understand why. When the mysterious blackout is lifted, life for those affected returns to apparent normality - except every woman of child-bearing age inside the zone has suddenly and inexplicably fallen pregnant. As news spreads and tensions simmer, it is up to gifted psychotherapist Dr Susannah Zellaby (Keeley Hawes) to help support those affected.  | Based on the novel by John Wyndham (who wrote Day of the Triffids) and yes, has been produced twice as a film (Village of the Damned 1960/1990). His best book IMHO was "the Chrysalids" set in a dystopian, post nuclear conflict future which has so far remained unfilmed. Whyndam is a very thoughtful SF writer and I hope this series will have the time to explore his themes. |

| there is no need to watch this. it is a third remake and worse than the other two. in fact things are the other way around nowadays where institutions control the minds of children making them believe they are something else. |

| I'm enjoying this series. John Wyndham wrote the novel in 1957, and this series has been transplanted to our present, (mobile phones etc), but otherwise it's true to the original. I think the makers did a damn good job. A/V perfectissimo. |
