| My honest review/watching guide. I write this again since there's a danger for many people of feeling conned by this movie. More than a bad faith "bait and switch" situation, I think this movie is a mash-up of 3 very different sections, and that can be confusing. FIRST PART: Mystery skillfully accentuated by the music, suggestive smart humor. You brace for something like "The Matrix" MID PART: (0:29 - 1:43) It becomes a weird comedy that will shamelessly test your patience for 75 minutes! Humor becomes bizarre and over-explained, silly fight choreographies, lazy world building, the main villain under-delivers. THIRD ACT (1:43-2:12): Heart-warming drama: Forget your Sci-fi expectations and just sip the pure, distilled, unconditional love that this movie throws at you. Almost no other movie will ever give you this much, I tell you. This is the only reason why this story gets a pass, and also why it impacts so deeply those who get to the end. It deals with divorce, failure, not achieving your life goals, loneliness, suicide, etc. and washes everything with the torrent of forgiveness, love and acceptance we all need, but don't even dream of receiving. It makes me want to be the kind of person who gives it to others. This movie has many flaws/sins, but also enough love to cover a multitude of them. |
