1927 Hollywood. Monumental Pictures' biggest stars, glamorous on-screen couple Lina Lamont and Don Lockwood, are also an off-screen couple if the trade papers and gossip columns are to be believed. Both perpetuate the public perception if only to please their adoring fans and bring people into the movie theaters. In reality, Don barely tolerates her, while Lina, despite thinking Don beneath her, simplemindedly believes what she sees on screen in order to bolster her own stardom and sense of self-importance. R.F. Simpson, Monumental's head, dismisses what he thinks is a flash in the pan: talking pictures. It isn't until The Jazz Singer (1927) becomes a bona fide hit which results in all the movie theaters installing sound equipment that R.F. knows Monumental, most specifically in the form of Don and Lina, have to jump on the talking picture bandwagon, despite no one at the studio knowing anything about the technology. Musician Cosmo Brown, Don's best friend, gets hired as Monumental's ideas man and musical director.  | Thank You What a wonderful lady performer she was. I met Debbie twice back in the early 80s. at the time I was a kid. Debbie had just appeared on the Don Lane Show in Melbourne Aust. I used to wait on all the golden era stars. a mate who was the only other waiting to meet her. My mate asked her for a hug surprisingly she opened up her arms mate and got his hug. then dear Debbie looked at me so to say get over here give me a hug. we waited at the gate I yelled out Miss Reynolds may I have your autograph please I used this approach with all the other celebs I have met. recently I bought personal items of Debbies like an original boxed VHS of the singing nun signed. I also have 1 or her hundreds of scarves. from her son Todd Fischer and his wife. would like to hear your own similar stories. yes I know it's not Facebook but would also like to see it very friendly. About the movie, it is a great one Great actors 3 top dancers. after all these years I thought of an old TV show I'd watched in the 70s The Singing Nun and never thought for a minute that Debbie Reynolds was the main actress. now I have seasons of it to watch.
