In 1813, the death of the Viennese composer Johann Baptist Va?hal, who hailed from eastern Bohemia, probably received considerably more attention than Wagner's birth. The musical style of Haydn's and Mozart's contemporary was highly popular at the time, so the marginal recognition of his - more than a thousand - works comes as a surprise. With the three sonatas for clarinet and pianoforte and two sonatas instrumented for the violin, the Austrian clarinetist Ernst Schlader, a specialist in period instruments, and Wolfgang Brunner on a fortepiano from the 1790s confirm Christians Schubart's verdict (Vienna, 1806): 'Vanhall has his own manner and a taste recommendable to any listener'.

Ernst Schlader studied clarinet, organ and historical performance practice at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz and at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague and meanwhile ranks among the specialists most in demand for performances on historical clarinets.
He is a member of the L'Orfeo Baroque Orchestra in Linz and the Concilium Musicum in Vienna and performs regularly as a clarinet, basset horn and chalumeaux player with the Academy for Old Music in Berlin, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Ars Antiqua Austria, the New Orchestra in Cologne as well as the Andrassy Trio, with which he realized the CD recording Terzetti, highly praised by critics. Since 2007, he has been a reader for historical clarinets and chalumeaux at the State Academy of Music in Trossingen/Germany, and since 2009 a reader in musicology at the Academy of Music and Performing Art in Frankfurt/Main, at which he also obtained his doctorate.

Wolfgang Brunner studied school music, piano, historical keyboard instruments and musicology and currently teaches at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, the Bruckner University in Linz and the Academy of Music in Trossingen. Following international competition successes on the harpsichord and the fortepiano, he has been a regular guest at major European festivals for Old Music and is today considered one of the leading specialists of his generation.
In 1991, Wolfgang Brunner founded the ensemble 'Salzburger Hofmusik', which mainly, but not exclusively, performs music of the 17th to 19th centuries on period instruments. The music of the court in Salzburg is a focus in their repertoire. To date, the ensemble as well as Brunner as a soloist have released about 50 CDs, including many first recordings from the early Baroque to Carl Orff.
