Valery Kuleshov - Virtuoso Transcriptions (2014)
This recording contains three absolutely amazing and stunning piano transcriptions! Igor Khulodey, famous Russian pianist and composer, wrote in 1988 his Boris Godunov suite, after Mussorgskys opera. This frescolike work conjures up the tale of Boris, a Russian tragedy, the rich orchestral textures captured in larger than life pianism of unprecedented invention and difficulty, the bell scenes magnificently caught. The excitement and thrill of Mussorgskys orchestral work Night on Bald Mountain is superbly maintained in Khulodeys brilliant transcription, a pianistic tour de force of the highest order. Tchaikovskys Romeo Juliet is transcribed by Florian Noack, as fresh and colourful as the original.
Russian pianist Valery Kuleshov is a prize winner (both Silver Medal) of the prestigious Cliburn Competition and the Busoni Competition. His technique seemingly has no limitations, and his palette of colours, sense of structure and range of sonorities in these transcriptions are beyond belief.
