The Farmers’ Country Showdown S06 E06-E10 (1280x720p HD, 50fps, soft Eng subs)

Series celebrating inspirational farming families and the rural events where they showcase their hard work, as they try to win the top prizes.

E06 Mid Devon Show
For Sharon and Andrew, farming and family is their whole life. With five grown-up children and several grandkids, there’s an army of willing helpers on hand to lead their Coloured Ryeland sheep into the ring at the Mid Devon Show. Luckily, show day is very much a family affair, so everyone is around to celebrate some impressive results. Farming couple Gillian and Ian are also competing with their Coloured Ryelands. They may be leading the way in rewilding their Devon farm, but Gillian is quite new to showing her sheep in competition. Along with pre-show nerves, there are tears when she discovers the judges' decision.

E07 Lancashire Game & Country Festival
Self-taught farming couple SJ and Nat rear their herd of free range pigs in the Pennines near Todmorden, West Yorkshire, and over the past decade have built up a farm that now supports them. They are proud of their award-winning sausages and hope their passion for high-welfare meat, and their freshly cooked samples, will attract plenty of attention at the Lancashire Game and Country Festival. As well as notching up sausage sales, SJ is keen to launch her new experimental products on the palates of passing shoppers. Meanwhile, for organic farmers Emma and Ian, who live in the Ribble Valley, it’s their first time at the festival. As well as aiming for a sell-out day for their grass-fed beef, it’s a chance for Ian to spread the word about their farm and reel in new trade. Emma focuses on her first love, the cows, and Ian is the people person. For both of these farming couples, the hard work of being at the festival will be worth it if they go home in an empty van and manage to win the hearts and loyalty of new customers.

E08 Westmorland County Show
Debbie and Paul may not come from farming backgrounds, but Debbie’s determination after quitting her office job means they are now the proud owners of 300 alpacas on their Northumberland farm. They are heading to the Westmorland County Show in Cumbria, hoping to return home with rosettes and maybe even the champion breed title, which they have won before. Meanwhile, Lancashire alpaca farmer Bev also faces the heat of competition, and a champion win would take her one step closer to fulfilling her dream of full-time farming in the future

E09 Edenbridge & Oxted Agricultural Show
Paul’s East Sussex smallholding is home to his two loves, his pigs and his family. Paul’s ten-year-old grandson Bobby is a regular visitor and helps him look after them. Paul is a self-confessed novice farmer, and this will be his and Bobby’s first time competing at Edenbridge & Oxted Agricultural Show. Besides the challenge of showing against much more experienced farmers, Paul runs the risk of his spirited Tamworths giving him the runaround in the ring. Meanwhile, Hannah, a sheep farmer from Kent, may have only been in the business for a few years, but she is serious about racking up some top rosettes with her Hampshire Down flock, even though she’s up against some of the best local breeders.

E10 Abergavenny Food Festival
Friends Neil and Kai started their chilli farm in 2019 and now grow over 500 pesticide-free plants in their Wye Valley polytunnels. As they are a young business, taking their products to the prestigious Abergavenny Food Festival for the first time is a big deal for them. Hoping to turn customers’ heads with their fresh chillies and flavoured salts, they’re also launching their new chilli ice creams to the public.

Over in the Monnow Valley, Kevin is bottling up his award-winning Welsh cider, perry and apple juice. He and his partner Natalie are passionate about managing orchards in a wildlife-friendly way. For both these small-scale farming businesses, if sales go well on the day, the festival will be a great financial boost
