The Rolling Stones - Got Live If You Want It! (1966)

As Brian Jones' time with the Stones (and with the rest of this world) was drawing to a close, the band was becoming both more progressive in its conception and more adept in its musicianship. Though the studio recordings from this golden period are impeccable, nowhere is the band's growth more evident than on GOT LIVE IF YOU WANT IT. Recorded by Glyn Johns at London's Royal Albert Hall, this album shows the Stones as a powerful live unit, now capable of subtle emotional shadings as well as rock & roll raveups.

The Stones pay homage to their roots with versions of "Not Fade Away" and "Satisfaction" that easily rival their studio cousins. It's the point at which the Stones' musical trajectory veers off from the blues that things get really, interesting, though. From the ominous "Under My Thumb" to the Elizabethan "Lady Jane" and the transcendent, Dylan-influenced "19th Nervous Breakdown," the band shows off its musical sophistication both compositionally and in spirited performances. An essential live document of one of the band's finest hours.

Recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall, London, England on September 23, 1966.-

This is a bit of a dog's dinner as the concert recording at the Royal Albert Hall (RAH) had hardly started when a bunch of screaming girls stormed the stage and the performance was briefly stopped. The screaming was incessant - there's a video documentary which includes this gig. Several of the tracks are from other venues or studio tracks with audience noise added.
.
It was only released in the U.S. at the time so I have never heard it - there are interesting reviews in the usual places on the www - so I'm looking forward to hearing it
.
The ruckus at the RAH prompted an immediate ban on any further "popular music" entertainers appearing there for several years:_:D
.
I shall always remember the Rolling Stones from the FREE concert in Hyde Park. Mick Jagger in a white frock throwing boxes full of (mainly dead) butterflies into the air. There was some very good acid around that day so my memory is a little hazy but I do recall that "Midnight Rambler" lasted for TWO HOURS - well it seemed like that:_B)
.
When will someone release the entire recording of the Hyde park gig?  The "documentry" of the concert does not do it justice or include the other artists who contributed to a great day out in the sunshine. It really made up for spending an uncomfortable night on a couple of deckchairs trying to get some kip but being woken by the Park Police every 30 minutes:_:(
