(2021) Phish – Live Bait Vol. 18
Review:
Live Bait Vol. 18 contains nearly four hours of standout live performances spanning 1992 – 2003 recorded in cities Phish will play over the course of their Fall Tour 2021 which begins in Sacramento, California. As usual, Shapiro picked tasty segments most of which have never been released. Live Bait Vol. 18 begins with a stellar “It’s Ice”/”Glide” pairing from Phish’s November 30, 1996 show at Arco Arena in Sacramento and continues with an expansive “Harry Hood” recorded at San Francisco’s historic Warfield Theatre on May 27, 1994. Shapiro then went with a high-octane “Tweezer” from the quartet’s March 30, 1993 performance at Hilton Ballroom in Eugene, Oregon. Next comes a well-jammed “Run Like An Antelope” and the beautiful “Wading In The Velvet Sea” that followed in Phoenix on July 29, 1997. The compilation rolls on with a stellar “Simple” featuring “Catapult” within Phish played at Spreckels Theatre in San Diego on December 8, 1994 and a “Fee” that gave way to “Taste” on Valentine’s Day 2003 at Inglewood, California’s Great Western Forum. Live Bait Vol. 18 concludes with a trip to Gamehendge for a wild “Colonel Forbin’s Ascent” > “Fly Famous Mockingbird” > “Icculus” > “Fly Famous Mockingbird” sequence captured in Isla Vista, California on April 16, 1992 and a 22-minute “Stash” from November 13, 1997 in Las Vegas.
