If anybody looked at the list of songs on this album and said 'what the hell is this?' - you're not alone. Hail Satin is a tribute album, in which Foo Fighters do covers of five classic Bee Gees songs. It also includes five tracks from 'Medicine at Midnight' recorded live at their 606 studio. Normally I don't download cover albums, but hey, it's Foo Fighters doing The Bee Gees. How much weirder can it get? Don't answer that. Just put on some old bell bottom jeans and throw a gold chain around your neck - 'cuz you should be dancing. The 'Hail Satin' title (instead of Hail Satan ) is a spoof on popular 70s disco attire. I'm gonna check out the album and report back later ..... Thanks, pmedia. Later that same day ...... The Bee Gees cover songs sound - well - a lot like The Bee Gees. Dave Grohl is singing in falsetto, so his normal rock n' roll voice is pretty much unrecognizable. The guitar riffs are a bit 'edgier' than the original Bee Gees versions, but otherwise, you might actually think you're listening to The Bee Gees. The five 'live' tracks from Medicine at Midnight were recorded in the studio, so they sound fairly polished and a lot like the originals. Cut to the chase: if you're not a fan of The Bee Gees and you already have 'Medicine at Midnight' - you could skip this one and not feel guilty. Up to you. I'm gonna save my copy in the folder marked 'WTF?' And one more interesting tidbit: only 12,000 copies were released on vinyl to record stores worldwide, which has created a supply vs. demand issue. The result is that Hail Satin is currently being 'flipped by aspiring entrepreneurs' for much more than the normal retail price. Thanks to pmedia, we don't have to worry about that. Forget satin, Hail pmedia! |
this is just embarrassing , used to think this band was decent. but he's just living off the fame of cobain , if kurt were alive he would vomit at the thought of releasing something as sad as this , its not even funny. foo fighters are just another average band that sound like a thousand others , but only famous because of "that cool nirvana drummer" cobain probably would have slagged off a band like this because they have nothing original to offer. |
