Da quando nonno Ed (De Niro) si trasferisce a casa sua, usurpando senza riguardo la sua adorata cameretta e condannandolo a spostarsi nel puzzolente solaio, il dodicenne Peter architetta una marachella dietro l'altra per costringere l'anziano parente a fare i bagagli. Ma il nonno non è fragile e spaurito come sembra e risponde al fuoco col fuoco, o con una bella secchiata d'acqua per placare i bollenti spiriti del ragazzino. Quella ingaggiata tra i due è una battaglia senza esclusione di colpi, scherzi, dispetti e punizioni; una lotta all'ultimo sgambetto per la conquista dell'agognato posto letto.
