Ky-Mani Marley is a Jamaican reggae and hip-hop artist. His name is of East African origin, and means "Adventurous Traveler". He is the only child of Bob Marley with Anita Belnavis, a Jamaican table tennis champion.
Ky-Mani Marley was born in Falmouth, Jamaica, to Anita Belnavis, a Jamaican table tennis champion; and reggae superstar Bob Marley. At the age of nine, Ky-Mani and Belnavis relocated to the ghetto of Miami, Florida. In his early youth, Ky-Mani was unaware of his musical abilities, sports being his first love. With his mother's direction, he received piano and guitar lessons and played trumpet in his high school band. As an athlete, he competed in soccer and American football.
The Journey is the second studio album produced by Ky-Mani Marley, Bob Marley's son, Clifton "Specialist" Dillon & Neil Robertson, released on August 22, 2000. The album received good reviews and is Ky-Mani's first album featuring his own songs. The most notable song from this album eventually became "Dear Dad", with lyrics taken from a letter Ky-Mani wrote as a child to his father after he died.
