The second release from Famous Flames is all about the power of melody and the marvels of the juxtaposition of saxophones and guitars. Sure, there s the odd mention of Tequila and the odd instructional dance move but in this 92 track compilation, it s the back beat that takes centre stage as the perfect follow up to Famous Flames' acclaimed First Rock and Roll Record CD. Throughout the 1950s, the concept of the instrumental track was wrestled away from the cloying strings of MOR orchestras and into the hands of screwdriver-wielding guitarists, sleazy saxophonists, primal garage bands and dance craze creators. The teenage generation demanded music with everything and non-vocal versions of the hits sat next to specially created rabble-rousing gems that transcended genres and styles. This was music where words were just not enough. This collection, compiled by Dave Henderson from Mojo Magazine, contains 94 tracks from the 1950s, the glory days of instrumental music, the very backbone of rock 'n' roll, the spine of RnB and primitive pop music. An almost wordless journey that traverses dirty rock 'n' roll, syncopated be-suited dance moves, the glory of twangy guitars, RnB shuffles, sleazy jazz shakedowns and truly inspirational music.
