In the early evening of August 21, 2015, the world watched in stunned silence as the media reported a thwarted terrorist attack on Thalys train #9364 bound for Paris--an attempt prevented by three courageous young Americans traveling through Europe. The film follows the course of the friends' lives, from the struggles of childhood through finding their footing in life, to the series of unlikely events leading up to the attack. Throughout the harrowing ordeal, their friendship never wavers, making it their greatest weapon and allowing them to save the lives of the more than 500 passengers on board.

Il lungometraggio, basato sull'autobiografia The 15:17 to Paris: The True Story of a Terrorist, a Train, and Three American Heroes di Jeffrey E. Stern, Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler e Alek Skarlatos, racconta la vicenda del tentato attacco terroristico al treno Thalys 9364 , in viaggio da Amsterdam a Parigi, avvenuto il 21 agosto del 2015. Quel giorno in quel treno si trovavano a viaggiare tre giovani americani: Spencer Stone (Spencer Stone), Anthony Sadler (Anthony Sadler) e Alek Skarlatos (Alek Skarlatos). Durante il terribile episodio i tre coraggiosi ragazzi, legati da un’amicizia lunga una vita, iniziata ai tempi della scuola, riuscirono ad unire le loro forze per tentare di immobilizzare il terrorista marocchino Ayoub El-Khazzani (Ray Corasani), intenzionato a sparare ai passeggeri con il suo fucile d'assalto. Fortunatamente il sangue freddo e l’esperienza di Spencer e Alek, militari statunitensi, e il coraggio e la prontezza di Anthony, permisero non solo di bloccare l’attentatore, evitando così, una strage, ma anche di soccorrere Mark Moogalian, un passeggero ferito gravemente da un colpo di pistola esploso da Ayoub El-Khazzani. Il gesto eroico dei tre coraggiosi amici, premiato con la più alta onorificenza francese, salvò la vita dei 500 passeggeri presenti nel convoglio.
