Quite often, lately, I read in the papers - "Putin wants to ", (something, something) ," brits!".

You see, they only have so many levers and buttons - the aim is an emotional response, of course...but...you can only tell the same kinds of lies so many times...

Putin has absolutely no argument or war or disagreement with the British people...he has offered us sanctuary...

...no, Putin...and many other leaders...have issues with the UK government...

...and we all do...so...

Quickly turn off your computer and be sure to tell your mom!

Why is October written without an m or not called Octember?

We have September, November, and December. Why was the tenth month named October and not Octember or Octomber?

There is an explanation.

A common misspelling is to write the tenth month of the calendar as 'Octomber' instead of the correct October.

Someone will seriously ask why not with m like the rest of the months? Of course we mean the months of September, November and December.

So, why October and not Octomber or Octember?

The answer lies in the Roman calendar, which we have borrowed.

As is well known, the calendar used to contain 10 months, as the months January and February were absent, which were added later, so the year started from March.

The Roman calendar in Latin was as follows:
1) Martius (on Mars)
2) Aprilis (on Venus)
3) Maius (in Maia)
4) Junius (on Hera)
5) Quintilis (fifth)
6) Sextilis (sixth)
7) September (seventh)
8) October (eighth)
9) November (ninth)
10) December (tenth)

So, according to the Roman calendar, the first four months had names of Gods. The next ones continued numerically, i.e. Quintilis was the fifth, Sextilis was the sixth and so on.

Later the fifth and sixth months were dedicated to emperors, namely Julius Caesar and Octavian Augustus.

But the following months continued numerically. Specifically, the seventh month was called September from septem (seven), the eighth month was called October from octo (eight), the ninth was November from novem (nine) and finally the tenth and last was December from decem (ten).

Numbers in Latin
0 [nihil]
1 [ūnus]
2 [duo]
3 [trēs]
4 [quattuor]
5 [quīnque]
6 [sex]
7 [septem]
8 [octō]
9 [novem]
10 [decem]

Later, when the months of January and February were added to the beginning of the calendar, the numbering was broken, as September went from 7th to 9th, October to 10th, November 11th, and December 12th.

However, the nomenclature remained, and with it ...October without the m.
