| In my younger days (adjusts false teeth) I had quite an active social life(*1). I would wake up in a bush, on a bench, on the pavement and "Sheryl Crow - All I Wanna Do" would be as vital to my...reintegration...as the crappy burger and coffee I had on the way home. (*1) - In truth, it was less a social life and more a me life...I needed to experience and absorb it all. I had clubbing friends and party friends and...well, you get the point. In the end I just went out, at night, alone...sometimes to a party/gig/club...sometimes I'd just see what happened. I don't regret a second. The darkness always sings to me about past japes and potential adventures. | |

| Clattering out the house, down the steps...Aunty Night whispering, joking, shushing, encouraging. Running. Cobbles. Cool air. Breath. Freedom. Down to the sea and across the front - past the drunks and chalets. ...clubs - smells, sounds... ...flaring nostrils... | |

| 🙄 Or...why Americans call football 'soccer' 🙄 😜 Americans call football 'soccer' due to English 'mistake' 😜 'Soccer' is called in America, 'football' in almost the rest of the world. After all, what is the most correct translation of football? And why did Americans differentiate themselves from the rest of the planet? Americans may call it soccer, but the fault is not 100% theirs. In fact, the reason they don't call it 'football' like the rest of the world is a mistake... of Britain. The word 'soccer' is a British invention that the English stopped using only about 40 years ago, according to a 2014 paper by University of Michigan professor Stefan Szymanski. The word 'soccer' is a British invention derived from the use of the term 'association football'. It dates back 200 years to the early 1800s. British universities took 'football' – a medieval game – and started playing their own versions of it, all with different rules. To standardize things across the country, these games were categorized under different organizations under different names.A variation of the hand-played game was called rugby football. Another became known as the football association after the creation of the Football Association to promote the game in 1863. 'Rugby football' became 'rugger' for short and then 'rugby'. 'Association football' became 'soccer'. After the two sports spread across the Atlantic, Americans made their own version that they simply called 'football' in the early 1900s. Association football was called soccer in America. In the late 19th century, the word 'soccer' was first added to the Oxford University dictionary, taking 'soc' from 'As-soc-iation' and adding '-er' as the suffix of the person playing it. According to Szymanski, the British stopped calling football 'soccer' because Americans called it that. The British still regularly used soccer for a huge chunk of the 20th century. Between 1960 and 1980, soccer and football were almost identical in the United Kingdom. Since 1980 the use of the word 'soccer' has declined in British publications. Where used, it is usually referred to in an American context. British broadcaster Sky Sports was still using the concept to name 'Soccer Saturday' and 'Soccer A.M.' the hugely popular TV shows. Eather soccer or football, we love it...The King of Sports!! 😁💖⚽🦶🥅🏆😜 | |

| England have three lions on their badge as it is the FA logo. However, the history of the mark goes deeper, with this particular emblem dating back to the 12th century. The England football team has had the three lions on their shirts since their first international match, but why did this symbol become the official emblem of the national team? The three giant felines have graced England shirts since way back in 1872. It was the first match between Scotland and England at the West of Scotland Cricket Ground in Partick and although the sport has changed a lot since then, the three lions have remained in the English look. England wore the badge of the three lions in that game because it was the official logo of the Football Association, founded way back in 1863. So the question is: Why did the FA has three lions on their crest? The beastly trio has also appeared on England's coat of arms since around 1200, although it was three golden lions on a red background, as opposed to the usual blue and white on football shirts. The three lions also formed an important part of the coat of arms of the United Kingdom, along with the coats of arms of Scotland and Ireland. The whole idea of a lion on a coat of arms started with Henry I, who stuck a lion on his coat of arms when he claimed the throne in 1100. He was known as the Lion of England, so it all made sense. Henry soon married Adeliza and this led to a second lion on his coat of arms, because her father also had a lion on his coat of arms. The third lion came into the fold in 1154 when Henry II married Eleanor of Aquitaine, as her family also had a lion in their coat of arms. The England National Football Team wore the 'three lions' (blue on a white background) for the first time in 1872 in a match against Scotland. 🏆⚽🦁🦁🦁🍻🏴☠️ Last edited by panosol on 2024-06-17 15:19:41 | |

| Hi guys, I have a joke: "A married couple is sitting at the dinner table. The woman says, "Honey, I think I have lumbago." The man says, "That can't be," they don't shoot their own people." | |
