Well there is 2 ways of capturing from HD+ SkyBox, the first is capturing off the HDMI output and this can be tricky
as you have fool the HDCP protection system, it is possible but not easy to achieve.
The second way is to capture from the Component output sockets (the 3 phone sockets at the back) there are no end
of devices that can do that. The problem might be that you can find the component outputs are limited to 575P but
I am not sure on this.
Unless it's a sky channel that you are trying to record the easiest solution is a Free to air box, example here
https://www.freetv.ie/hd-satellite-receiver/
You can record onto a USB key, in .ts (transport stream) format, HD recording work fine provided it's a free to air
channel ie: BBC1, BBC2, ITV etc.
Encoding .ts to mp4 or mkv is possible on your computer.
Humax boxes encode the files so unless you have a FoxSat receiver or older, so don't go there

Thanks RB for the reply...
I have tried using Hauppauge HD 1080 capture device with a spiltter/stripper of the DCHP but get no picture on the pc capture software, but I do get the picture and sound on the TV.
So ATM I'm using a Dazzle which is limited to 720, I use AVS Media to capture as it captures in 16.9

On the HDMI capture, the only thing I found to work was one of these
https://www.hdfury.com/product/hd-fury-x3/
The only reason they are allowed to market it is a lot of projectors have no HDMI input lol
It captures the HDMI great when connected to the Hauppauge, but I had a problem on the resulting bitrate after I encoded
the captured file, but this could have been a software problem or settings on the Hauppauge.
I gave up and went the Free to Air route as there is not lot on Sky I want and I stripped down the skybox and the hard drive
is in daughters computer now :D
I have one of these devices but don't use it (been in a box for couple of years), so if interested please PM and we will see what we can do

The Hauppauge capture box I have is HD PVR 2 model 1512 the one with the blue light not the green light of the gaming
version.
The amazon link is the best I can do as the Hauppauge website has no https only http
https://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-1512-Definition-Personal-Technology/dp/B00BA4ILX8
The info on Amazon is incorrect as it does do 1080P

That could be the problem as I can't anywhere in the game Edition spec that it does settop boxes.
It could explain the price difference.
Here are the specs
www.hauppauge.com/pages/products/data_hdpvr2.html
and
www.hauppage.com/pages/webstore2/webstore_hdpvr2-gaming.html
