Just watched Strange New Worlds s01e01, seems to be more in keeping with The Original Series, tho it does bug me the over use of neon lighting on the bridge. I would have liked it to have been a bit more low tech seeing as this Enterprise pre-dates Kirks`. I`m not saying to start using 1960`s style set but they could have dialled it down a little.  Of course i blame the set designer for Discovery as this Enterprise is gonna have to compete with Discovery. If you look at  (Scott Bakula) Captain Archers` Enterprise they had the right idea, it looked modern tho utilized 60`s era Bridge parts.:_:P

For me i actually had a problem with Patrick Stewarts acting (both seasons) in that i feel he`s forgotten how to act as Picard, yeh he`s an old man now but it feels like we just watching Patrick Stewart being Patrick Stewart. Picard was made of sterner stuff.
That got it!! I was wondering why I felt uncomfortable with Patrick Stewart's Picard, and that was it... you're right. Picard in The Next Gen' was sterner, someone in command and used to making decisions with confidence. In his latter years, Picard's not quite there. But I have to admit to shedding a tear during the Picard/Q scenes in the last episode. That was so well done.

I love all the new Trek's though, and grew up on Original and Next Gen' (including DS9 and Voyager) re-runs under "paternal supervision" (we had to watch everything in order of Stardate :_facepalm:_facepalm:_facepalm). My mom had it worse though, there was a signed poster of Gates Mcfadden in my dad's study!

I was more a Nana Visitor fan myself -- still am, that woman rocks her grey hair  :_love:_love

In order of stardate? lol that may have been difficult as Next Generation was mid way thru season 6 when DS9 started and then  Voyager began 2 years later, to then have 5 years worth of mixed DS9 & Voyager episodes. right?
(as it happens i found a site that lists the episodes in order of stardate https://www.johnstonsarchive.net/startrek/st-episodes-1.html ) lol:_:-)

As for Gates yeh she was hot, however in terms of character i found Dr Pulaski to have been far more interesting, Gates is ok but we could have done without her.

Diana Muldaur was also in the Orginal series.:_B)

As for Nana Visitor, i love her and as Star Treks go i`m probably in the minority but i rate DS9 above all the others past and present.
Here`s 3 reasons to like her.:_:P

Star Trek TOS and Star Trek Voyager are my favourites, i bought each vhs (Voyager) tape when it came out in the UK, (i work at airline company) later i bought Voyager on DVD here in NL, Later i bought a Sat. dish set for FTA, lots of repeats you have to watch before the new series start, now i "torrent" most stuff, but still have a large dvd collection, and some BD… main intrest is tv series and old stuff on youtube.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds S02e09: What the F#%&!
I recently started on Strange New Worlds after watching the 1st episode a a couple of years ago, looked decent so decided to save it and have a good run to watch. Forgot about; then had 2 whole seasons to watch which was great, really enjoyed it... till s02e09 the musical episode!?
Image error Image error Image error
I may have forgiven it until i saw the dancing klingons doing a US style boyband routine and singing in a not very Klingon style at all.:_facepalm

After this shambolic episode i decided to look on imdb to confirm it was the worst rated episode, of which is was... BUT then i looked at the reviews and it is very insane that there are a number very high scores, of which i cannot fathom, how can any sci fi person rate it 10 outta 10 which for this genre does not make any sense at all, a 10 score for a musical episode in a sci fi categorie means you take musicals more seriously than the premise of the show itself. See for yourself the insanity https://www.imdb.com/title/tt22805762/reviews

Perhaps you enjoyed the episode and wish to defend it. Perhaps you did not mind it, or perhaps it made ashamed to be a Trekkie. From what i noticed whilst fast forward/ skipping was; there seemed to be some well made catchy tunes.. but is Star Trek
really the place for it??

It got a 100% on Rotten Tomato:
https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/star_trek_strange_new_worlds/s02/e09

I liked it.  Nothing wrong into adding a musical to any TV series.  It's fun.

Good answer, i cant argue much with "It`s fun" i suppose it was!
I imagine anyone flicking channels at the time of broadcast that came across that episode would stop to check out some if not all of the episode and perhaps get introduced to this new series. Families with kids watching would be able to relate too. I`m not a purist by any means, was just surprised and taken aback having watched 2 seasons over 1 week to be greeted by this silly and somewhat stupid (fun) episode, I guess everyones` idea of fun is different, My idea of fun for a good episode would involve some sort of time travel or time loop.:_:)

Even tho i`ve watched Heroes (2006) a few times over the years, on watching it this time i noticed something i never spotted before (s01e14), check it out:
Image error
I merged these 2 frames together (roughly) from the same scene, and George Takei gets into this car with a brief glimpse of his licence plate which of course is the registry number of the Enterprise! The show has alot of Star trek references mainly from Hiro and Ando. George plays Hiros father and appears in a some episodes with a good amount of story arc revolving around him and his son.

The really early stuff is what gets ya hooked with it's plastic suits and make-up:_party:_:-):_:-):_:-):_party:_:-*

I'd suggest "Star Trek The Next Generation" myself as that sorta fits into all the others nicely whenever you cross over to a different one etc.
Don't like Deep Space 9 myself:_facepalm...or the Janeway one:_:-):_facepalm

You could always try the movies as thats less time getting to know the characters and they all appear in the series anyhoo:_party:_party...(NOT the new JJ-Reboot movies tho:_facepalm)
Or just grab a couple of episodes from a few series and see which one, if any, grab your attention:_party:_party:_:D

While i share that feeling, i have to admit that "Once more with feeling" from Buffy was quite amazing.

For me its all about the original series.
1) the writing and guidance of gene Roddenberry.
2) william shatner
3) leonard nimoy and the late decision to give spock a different demeanor.
These elements were key.

This was a time when many did not take science fiction seriously. There was no need for it to have any resemblance to reality in any technical sense because after all, its only science fiction. This was the mindset.
Gene Roddenberry changed that, the stories are tightly written and well thought out .

Clearly nextgen is less about space and more about personal relationships, you dont have to go further than the synopsis of numerous episodes to see that.
There are episodes i like but mostly i dont like it.

Gene Roddenberry said that TOS was "wagon train in space"
If thats the case then nextgen must be "general hospital in space" (soap opera)

I would like to see a movie featuring the Borg.
Maybe the borg become such a widespread threat across the universe that old enemies must band together to take them on.
Picard is retired but he is agreed by all factions to be the only one trusted to lead the armada and must return to service.

Yes, they say it was all but finished in 1968.
There may be a few clunker episodes but its well done.

i agree with B4ND1T69:_trusted_uploader::_sitefriend::_sitelover::_junkie::_kitty::_sun::_turtle: & PhoenixRising:_kitty::_turtle: The Original 1966 series  is very good but if you cant get into the early stuff, then maybe Strange New Worlds (2022) is a good introduction. Whilst i cant say Strange New world is anywhere in my top favorites it does introduce you to watered down versions of Captain Kirk and Spock Characters based on from the Original series and perhaps if you end up liking it; you may be inspired to watch the orginal.

Alternativley for new comers just starting i would actually suggest Star Trek Voyager (1995) as it is slighty easier to watch as the story begins with them being flung thousands of light years away with the flavour of the series; being them trying to get back home, hoping to meet some technology driven aliens along the way that can aid them get back to earth.

Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987) is pretty awesome however may not be the best introduction. Heres my little story:  8 years ago one day i was surprised to learn my younger brother watched the 1st episode of Next Generation as he has never shown much interest in Sci-fi before, he mostly likes heist movies and thrillers and not much of a TV show kinda guy, i quizzed him about it, as the pilot is quite long and checked to see if he watched the whole thing or if he fell asleep which he usually does. Turned out he watched the whole 1st episode, i asked him if he enjoyed it and if he would start on the series, he said  felt was a bit dated it was alright but not for him, which is a shame as i`d love for him to have gotten into it. Had i known he would try Next Gen i`d have actually recommended an episode from season 3 or 4 to get started, cause that pilot for as great as it was for the time is actually pretty dull by todays standards, not to say it isn`t good, it is very well written, it is just that it it is from 1987 and can put some people off.

If you really want to start from the beginning tho (so to speak) you could checkout Enterprise (2001) as it pre-dates the orignal series; it is good as it starts with early 1st time venturing into the galaxy; no tractor beams or shields only grapple hooks cannons and armor plating  i feel it may be superior in many ways to any of them however the 1st couple of seasons can be a slow burn to start with more emphasis on drama but picks up nicely as so to have wished they had done a season 5.

Whilst the Original series is from the 60`s, it has a great horror Sci-Fi vibe and can feel very refreshing compared to todays TV if you choose to get into it.

This list does not reflect my personal ranking just saying what might be good watchability for 1st timers. If anyone wants to disagree please do so, perhaps you have a different take on what is best :_:)
