| The barred spiral galaxy known as NGC 4907 shows its starry face from 270 million light-years away to anyone who can see it from the Northern Hemisphere. Appearing in this Hubble image to shine brightly below the galaxy is a star that is actually within our own Milky Way galaxy. | |

| The Pleiades, also known as the Seven Sisters and Messier 45, are an open star cluster containing middle-aged, hot B-type stars in the north-west of the constellation Taurus. It is among the star clusters nearest to Earth, it is the nearest messier object to Earth, and is the cluster most obvious to the naked eye in the night sky. | |

| Ahhhh... The Plieades (the Seven Sisters), one of my favourites from the Messier Catalogue:-) Not always so easy to find at first.. hehehehehe. When I first joined the RASC (Royal Astronomical Society of Canada), they used to have a special quest at our local chapter, to find all 110 Messier objects in your telescope. If you found all of them, you received a special award. I only found around 6 myself as I always worked nights and my observing time was limited. Here's a picture of all 110 Messier Objects: | |

| Charles Messier was only interested in finding comets, he created the list of 110 non-comet objects that frustrated his hunt for them. :-) | |

| Shoemaker-Levy 9: Comet's Impact Left Its Mark on Jupiter Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 experienced one of the most spectacular ends that humans ever witnessed. Several months after its discovery, pieces of the comet smashed into the planet Jupiter. The collision produced scars that were visible from Earth. "This is the first collision of two solar system bodies ever to be observed, and the effects of the comet impacts on Jupiter's atmosphere have been simply spectacular and beyond expectations. | |
