Description
I love Prairie Home Companion. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I started listening to these audio files.

The show started in 1974 and went national in 1980. That year, I picked up friends to go to the movies. We were too late to go to the showing we had in mind so we decided to wait in the car for the next showing. I turned on the radio. An NPR station was playing. After a while one of us said "I don't know what this is but it's pretty good!" That was the first time I heard PHC. I listened to it many many times during the next 36 years, until Garrison Keillor left the show in 2016. PHC made Saturday nights joyfully peaceful.

I downloaded 1016 episodes of PHC from here:

    https://www.prairiehome.org/index.html

I did my best to extract good titles esp. each episode's performers. I tagged files when I found mentions of Guy Noir (tag "GuyNoir"), Life of the Cowboys (tag "Cowboys"), "Ole and Sven", Bachelor Farmers (tag "Bachelor") and "JokeShow". "Guy Noir" is reliable but the other tags are based on finding keywords and might be off.

Remembered from a joke show that I heard when my 33-year-old son was 8:

Ole won the door prize, a toilet brush.
The next time Sven saw him he asked "How do you like the toilet brush, Ole?"
Ole repled "I guess it's OK, Sven, but I'm going back to toilet paper."

Ouch. 😱😆

Unfortunately the dates on the files are those found on the episode pages, which often are NOT the dates when that the episodes were aired.

For each episode there are 4 or 5 files with the same name. For example:

1996-02-17 The Cox Family, Peter Rowan & Jerry Douglas, and Francine Roche.mp3
1996-02-17 The Cox Family, Peter Rowan & Jerry Douglas, and Francine Roche.html
1996-02-17 The Cox Family, Peter Rowan & Jerry Douglas, and Francine Roche.jpg
1996-02-17 The Cox Family, Peter Rowan & Jerry Douglas, and Francine Roche - Description.txt
1996-02-17 The Cox Family, Peter Rowan & Jerry Douglas, and Francine Roche - Rundown.txt

These files are:

MP3 -- The radio show episode
HTML -- Double-clicking this will bring you to the episode's page on prairiehome.org
JPG -- The first image I found on the episode's main page
Description.txt -- This is the paragraph of text at the top of the episode's main page
Rundown.txt -- This has times that different things happen during the episode

You may find it interesting to use the HTML file to go to the episode's prairiehome.org page. Good photos, and sometimes there are short videos, like 20 for a given episode. For example, an old favorite bluegrass band, Hot Rize, does a song in one video segment.

The Description is the paragraph that appears at the top of every episode page. It is my source for the performers in the episode titles.

There are rundowns for 782 of the 1016 episodes. Here is an example rundown:

Rundowns are useful if you want to go directly to the Guy Noir segment or just listen to Hot Rize's performances.

I usually just let the whole show play, like how I listened to the radio show in olden days.

The "0 Other" subfolder contains "Pretty Good Joke Book - Garrison Keillor" in ePub, MOBI and PDF formats. It also contains "A Prairie Home Companion-July 6, 1974-The First Broadcast.mp4".

Image error

We were all so hairy then. LOL

There's also a subfolder "Joke Shows (different source)" that contains 8 "*.rm" files that are all Joke Show episodes. I don't know what RM files are but VLC will play them.

Enjoy!

Currently (2024-08-10 4.43 PT) my qBit torrent says there are 3 seeders and 11 peers.

I seed my torrents indefinitely. It will download. 😁

avatarRM is "Real Media," which was popular on the net, oh, about 25-30 years or so ago, due to its small file size.

I cannot thank you enough for this.  I know where about 2000 hours of my future life will be spent...right there in Lake Wobegon!
