The Skids were a British rock band formed in 1977 in Dunfermline, Scotland, who performed pop punk rock with art rock influences. The band achieved their greatest success in the UK Singles Chart in 1979 with the single “Into the Valley” (#10): the song was immediately adopted as a main chant by fans of the Dunfermline Athletic F.C. football club. (then it was adopted by Charlton Athletic fans). The band's first three (of four) albums were commercial successes, with their highest charting (#9) being the third, The Absolute Game (1980). Many famous musicians passed through The Skids, including Billy Nelson (Be Bop Deluxe, Red Noise) and Rusty Egan (The Rich Kids, Visage). Guitarist Stuart Adamson founded Big Country in 1980, one of the leading Scottish bands of the 1980s. After the breakup of The Skids, Richard Jobson headed The Armory Show for some time, then performed solo, published poetry collections, and became a film director.
